Matt Wolfe reacts to Friend 2.0, an AI necklace that calls itself a "confidant friend god." The first version sold 5,000 units. Wolfe questions whether the marketing is rage-bait or genuine, and asks if AI companions raise real ethical concerns.
What the fuck did I just watch? Friend, the company behind the AI necklace, just released Friend 2.0 that can now talk back to you. And this is the actual ad that they released for it.
When was the first time you felt this way?
A few years ago. Just feel like I should have an answer now.
It's okay to be confused.
I don't think so.
It's not bad to be gay.
I genuinely can't I can't tell whether their entire marketing strategy is intentionally rage bait or whether they actually watched this and thought, yeah, this is a good, useful product that people need. The founder literally described Friend as some kind of confidant friend god, and he said the first version sold through its initial run of 5,000 devices, and now he wants to sell 50,000 of these. And look, I am not an AI hater. I use AI every day. It's helped me build tools and grow my business in a way that honestly would've not been possible 5 years ago. And one comment even admitted, as someone currently trying therapy, I gotta say AI makes a much better counselor. So I don't know, maybe I'm just being old-fashioned here, but let me know in the comments what you think. And follow for more videos about what's happening in AI and tech right now.
