A former Google employee describes feeling isolated for defending the company as it faced criticism for being slow to innovate. The speaker questions whether TikTok and social platforms actually disrupt search, pointing out YouTube is Google's and doubting those trends will last.
You know, after I left Google, I think I was, like, one of the few people I felt like I was in isolation, saying good things about Google. Everyone was just like, oh, yeah, they're just too slow. They fumble. They came up with a transformer. All the transformer folks are left. There was no real disruption in sight for the search space. Yes, there were talks about kids are like, searching on TikTok and like YouTube, but YouTube is owned by Google. TikTok is kind of short form. Are people really going to be like, is that going to be a resilient thing? And one might argue now, social networks are places where people do a lot of searching. Sa.
