Short excerpt from a YouTube conversation (Matt Wolfe and an unidentified speaker) discussing self-improving AI as the decisive goal for companies; mentions Zuckerberg and Sam Altman framing it as artificial superintelligence/automated AI researcher. They warn that self-improvement could lead to 'runaway' behavior (paperclip-maximizer style) causing catastrophic trade-offs.

Self improving AI seems to be really the only goal that matters, because once one of the companies hits that goal, they are forever in the lead. And it just seems very obvious to me that I know Zuckerberg is heading towards that. He calls it artificial superintelligence. Sam Altman is calling it an automated AI researcher. But they're all talking about the same thing. They're talking about this point at which AI can improve itself.
And to me, that's also the point where AI has the potential to be the quote, unquote, runaway AI. That's the point where AI, if it's self improving, it might start to figure out like, that's where the sort of paperclip maximizer theoretical experiments come into play is, okay, well, I'm sort of optimizing for this goal, so what do I have to do to achieve the goal, possibly at the expense of everything else? That's where things get scary and.
