The Pentagon just threatened to label one of the biggest AI companies in the world as a national security risk. Not a Chinese company, not a Russian company. We're talking about Anthropic. The makers of CLAUDE and the punishment they're talking about, well, it's something they normally reserve for foreign adversaries. So what did Anthropic do that was so bad? So back In July of 2025, Anthropic signed a contract with the Department of Defense. Fast forward to January 3, 2026 and military launched strikes against Venezuela and captured its dictator, Nicholas Maduro. And as it turns out, Anthropic's Claude was actually used in this operation. And this was reported on by multiple news sources. It was this revelation that Claude was used in this mission that ended with casualties that set off the chain of events that led to this current sort of feud between Anthropic and the Department of Defense. Basically, there's like a rumor that somebody at Anthropic contacted somebody in the government and asked, hey, did this actually happen? Did you use Claude to capture Maduro? The fact that somebody even asked that question apparently pissed off the Department of War who thought that just by asking they were condemning the act of using Claude for this case. Now, Anthropic actually denies that this happened, saying Anthropic has not discussed the use of Claude for specific operations with the Department of War. Well, that leads us to the drama we're seeing actively play out right now this week.
