Matt Wolfe warns that improving AI-generated voices are already being used in phone scams—e.g., cloning a child’s voice to demand ransom or provide "proof of life." He says these voices are reaching realism that makes scams harder to spot than a year or two ago, and expresses fear that detection will become increasingly difficult.

I think the ones that scare me the most are, like, the ability to scam people, right? Because as these voices get better and better and better, it just becomes easier and easier to fool people over the phone, right? We've already heard of these scams where somebody will call and, you know, a parent and say, we've got your kid. We're holding them ransom, send us this money. But it's like AI voices and they clone the kid's voice for, like, proof of life or whatever. That type of stuff has already been happening. I feel like, you know, a year, two years ago, we would have been able to sort of spot like, okay, this sounds a little off. I think maybe there's something weird going on here. We're getting to a point where I think it's getting harder and harder and harder and we're not going to be able to like hell anymore, right? So I think the sort of, like, scam ability is one of my biggest fears around AI.
