Matt Wolfe reacts to OpenAI buying TBPn, the daily tech podcast. He's surprised given OpenAI said it wouldn't do side projects, and worried the acquisition could compromise TBPn's ability to cover competitors like Anthropic and Google fairly.

This was posted on April 1st. I would have guaranteed it was an April Fools' joke. OpenAI acquires TBPn. TBPn is like the ESPN of tech and business. I believe it stands for Tech Business Production Network. And it's just wild to me that OpenAI would be going and acquiring essentially a daily live podcast, especially after all of this talk of not doing side quests. Now, I think it's awesome for the TBPn guys. It's a great show. I actually tune in to make sure that I'm not missing anything in the news. It's just not something I would have ever seen coming. I wonder how this is going to change the show editorially. Like, are they allowed to still make jokes about OpenAI when OpenAI does something a little weird? Are they still going to be able to interview competitors at like Anthropic and Google and places like that? I don't know.
