How Do You Gain All The Knowledge in The Universe?

A speaker explores whether you can ever know enough to make a good decision. With 99.9% of all knowledge, that missing 0.1% could overturn everything you think you know, making any action justifiable if you believe it leads to total understanding. Curiosity and testing ideas matter more than chasing impossible completeness.

How do we gain all the knowledge in the universe? There's a group of scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs that have made it their number one goal to gain all the knowledge in the universe. But is that even possible? Right now, humanity possesses a small fraction of the knowledge compared to what is left to discover. Any idea or conclusion we come to can be disproved with new knowledge. So we do not know if it is possible or not to gain all the knowledge in the universe. But according to universalists, the best way to find out is to attempt it. So how does someone act if their goal is to gain all the knowledge in the universe? Let's imagine that your goal is to gain all the knowledge in the universe, and you have 99.9% of the knowledge in the universe, and you are faced with one final decision that will determine whether or not you gained the last 1% of knowledge. You would not know which decision was correct, no matter how much evidence and reasoning you had supporting your decision, the very last 1% of knowledge that you're trying to gain could contain the knowledge needed to make the correct choice. As much as you know, the missing 1% can disprove everything that you believe. This means that our pursuit of knowledge could actually be making us more lost. Every decision appears rational based on the knowledge that we currently have, but the vast amount of knowledge that we are missing could reveal that everything we are doing is wrong. It would be like we were navigating with a compass that was pointed the wrong way. Every step would seem correct because it would agree with the compass, but the compass itself Is only making us more lost. Infinite paths lie in front of you, and I do not currently possess the knowledge to know which lead to truth and which lead to delusion. This means the pursuit for all knowledge gives us no moral compass. For a universalist, this means Any action can be justified if they believe it'll lead to all the knowledge in the universe. A universalist would not even need to believe in universalism. If their actions somehow led to gaining all the knowledge in the universe, they would complete the universalist philosophy. So to pursue universalism, you don't even need to believe in the pursuit of gaining all the knowledge in the universe. All that matters is that you somehow stumble upon gaining all the knowledge in the universe, whether this is through drugs, technology, or complete chance. With certainty, we do not know how to gain all the knowledge in the universe without all the knowledge in the universe. Maybe we're at the point that That philosophy isn't about making large claims, about pursuing all the knowledge in the universe, this or that, because we're barely beginning to understand our own existence. Maybe instead philosophy is more about focusing on things that we can see the results and applications of now. There is something to be said about the universalist philosophy having a goal that can inspire people to create and learn more things. It fills me with a glow. I don't have answers to these philosophical questions, so I try to stay open, taking as many different perspectives as possible, from the now to the cosmic. By remaining curious, curious, cultivating openness, and continuing to create and test new theories. Subscribe to see more wild ideas. I love you guys.
