In this monologue, Max Harding argues that our sense of self, language, art, and concepts like free will are rooted in the metaphysical assumptions we hold about reality—such as the brain‑based self, simulation theory, and determinism. He demonstrates a website, WhoAreYouLogic.com, that extracts the hidden assumptions behind a person’s stated beliefs. Using the example of “Bob,” who simultaneously believes in human free will and an all‑knowing God, Harding shows how the site detects contradictions and resolves them by adding a third assumption (God’s knowledge does not determine choice). He extends the discussion to AI consciousness, the nature of art, and deterministic analogies, emphasizing that uncovering these underlying premises can improve self‑understanding and communication. The video ends with a promotional call‑to‑action, inviting viewers to try the website, give feedback, subscribe, and contact him via email.

Your identity is based on your metaphysical assumptions about reality. Now let's plug in some assumptions into you. Let's plug in brain, simulation, and determinism. If we take these assumptions about your identity, then it generates the result of— you are a pattern of brain activity, a character in a simulation, and the result of prior causes. And you are able to put an endless amount of different assumptions and create an infinite amount of possibilities! If all you are is assumptions, what assumptions make up you? Who are you? If you don't know, just type in what you think you are and the website will derive the underlying assumptions to your beliefs. This is my cutting-edge new website! WhoAreYouLogic.com. This shows that the assumptions we take determine how we perceive ourselves and live our lives. But our assumptions don't only determine our identity, they also determine all of language. This is me having a 2-hour argument about what art is. But what we didn't realize is that we were really arguing about metaphysical assumptions of reality. Like, what is consciousness? Is it just electrical impulses? If it is, that means AI is conscious and everything it creates is artwork completely changing Our understanding of what art is. But even if AI is conscious, does it have free will? And do you need free will to create an art piece? Do we even have free will? Or is our universe just deterministic? If our universe is just deterministic, a sculptor chipping away at his masterpiece seems no different than the waterfall eroding the mountain. Our language emerges from our metaphysical assumptions about reality. Have you ever met someone that has clearly contradictory beliefs, but they have no idea? This is Bob, and he believes that humans have free will, but he also believes that God knows everything. So we plug in Bob's assumptions: humans have free will, God knows everything. Contradiction detected! If God knows everything, how can humans freely choose? This is a classic problem of denying foreknowledge versus free will. Now let's plug in a 3rd assumption to see what will happen. God's knowledge doesn't determine choice. It resolves the contradiction! If humans have free will, and God knows everything, and God's knowledge doesn't determine choice, This website is not made to criticize or change your beliefs. It's made to help you understand the logic and reason that lies beneath them so you are more capable of understanding yourself and communicating to others. whoareulogic.com.
