This is a YouTube video titled "Do you wireframe or no? #designer #design #ui #fyp #uidesign #uiux #productdesign #duolingo" containing a monologue or talk discussing the relevance of wireframes in product design, referencing Duolingo's approach and offering insights on when wireframes are necessary. The content was created in May 2025 and focuses on design strategy and product development.
Duolingo's CEO recently said no more wireframes but should you follow their lead it makes sense for them because Duolingo has a mature product, a playful visual style and no doubt a strong design system to back it up. But if you're building from scratch, sometimes skipping wireframes can be like trying to frame a house without a blueprint. It's one thing when the home's already built and you're just redecorating a room or buying new furniture, but it's another if you haven't even decided the square footage of the foundation yet. If your product's visual style isn't fully locked in and you're still figuring out features as well, merging design and functionality into the same conversations can get messy fast. You could end up with a half baked design that only lightly covers the functionality that you actually need. Wireframes aren't dead, they're just not always necessary, especially if you're not Duolingo yet. I'm curious, where do you stand on this.
