A designer explains affordance, the principle that UI elements should visually signal what users can do with them. When buttons look clickable and scroll areas look scrollable, people know how to interact without guessing.
Interfaces exist for people to be able to use them and to do things with them. Use and do are both action verbs and affordances give clear indication that action is possible. There's lots of different ways inside of an interface or a website or a mobile app that affordance comes into play. Whether it's scrolling, swiping, tapping, editing, enlarging, zooming, all kinds of different ways that affordance comes into play. So it's just highly important that you're constantly thinking of affordance and you're looking at your screens that you design, and you're thinking, is a user going to know that they can do something on the screen? What do I want them to do? Is it easy for them to be able to see that they can do? Thank you so much for watching. If you want more design content, make sure you're following shift, nudge.
