I made an "Intro to Icons" course... Interested?

A designer walks through building a free intro to icon design course in Adobe Illustrator. He talks through the course structure and chats with Maddox about a Kickstarter game project.
If you're interested in learning about icon design with Adobe Illustrator, I'm creating a free intro course. The link is below. Hop on the list and you'll get notified as soon as it's ready. Today I'm headed to the office and I'm gonna start recording some icon design videos based on my Adobe Max presentation that I gave last fall. I've already got like lots of curriculum and lots of, lots of steps like written written for an intro to Icon design course. Just a small course like learning the basics of Illustrator. Learning how to use primitive, primitive shapes to make icons. I'm pretty sure I can record all of these videos in probably two or three hours. It's been hot the last couple of days. I'm glad that there's finally a little more of a chill in the air in January. I'm going to be spending most of my morning in that thing because it's echoey out here and I have some videos to produce and it's less echoey in here, especially when I'm this close to the microphone. Inside of the booth I've got this camera on a little tripod right now, but inside of the sound booth I've got this little hard mounted thing right here and it's got this little quick clamp on here that I bought a long time ago. Q top. It's basically a like friction quick clamp so I can just squeeze the buttons. It's hard to do with one hand. I've got a train coming by. This is what is disrupting my video production here. I love the train, but it is kind of annoying when you're trying to do video. Now we're going to go ahead and fire up Illustrator. Know that those icons roughly fall into now select the entire shape 3 pixel. Nothing else is selected. Settings, icon, radius, dragging line, segment. In regards to all the other icons, the level of more of a flat line at the very beginning. Can't wait to do it. Once you've got all of these icons, all of the videos for the icon design course are done. I just got to edit, put it together and it's all going to be free. It'll be coming to you very soon. But right now I'm going to call my friend Jess. We're going to talk about the software platform that we're kind of building. It actually might be too windy to have a call out here. Alright, dude, talk to you later. Alright, bye. Alright, I just got off the phone with Jess. I was walking around out there, but it's too windy and it's kind of cold and I don't have the external mic on this camera. Jess. Jess Brown, to be exact. He's a guy that helped me build the backend for my AI UX Illustrator course last year. So my. My UX course has a fully custom backend that we both built together and we kind of got excited about the idea of turning it into a piece of software that you could use. You know, it could be pretty much like a SaaS product, software as a service. Because he wants to make some courses and I'm planning on doing some more. Like, I've been recording the icon design course stuff. Today we are going to be trying to document our progress on another channel called Made with Modular. Modular is the name of the course app that we're going to build. We've already built it once for my course, but we're going to kind of scrap that and rebuild it so it'll be. So it would be more modular for other people to use for more instructors who have multiple courses and so on and so forth. Yes, there is core software that exists, but not core software that exists that Jess and I have built. So we're scratching our own itch because we will use the crap out of this thing.
So.
Lunch. What you guys doing over here?
Trying to freaking fix this game.
Are you. Are you being public about this game yet at all?
Yeah, it's Kickstarter. February 7th.
Tell us about it, Maddox. Oh, let me come over here. So the light's better.
Woes of a designer of like making everything, making sure everything's working properly two weeks beforehand. I mean, we've been playing it for.
Years, but have you posted these designs, illustrations already?
Yeah, yeah.
Where have you posted them?
Instagram.
Keymaster.
Keymaster's Instagram. Yeah.
And who is this lovely fellow?
This guy right here, Jake. This they call him. No. Yeah. I'm a student at the University of Georgia, fourth year, and I'm here helping them play this game and.
Do some.
Math stuff for them.
Math stuff's important, everyone. That's true.
That's why they call me Mathematics.
Oh, my goodness. That was February 27th. Kickstarter. Campy creatures. The last game blew up Kickstarter. They tried to raise 7,500 and they raised 75,000. So Maddox now comes to work in a Lamborghini. He's got Italian boots, you know, handmade shirts. No, I'm just kidding. But seriously, check it out. All right, dudes. Peace. Alright. Headed back to the house. All in all, I would say that was pretty successful. I got my icon course design completely filmed. I've batch exported the first first module lessons, and I've also got module two, Module three films. Got all this footage from the course, and I have to not get too confused with the footage from this vlog, but all in all, good day. I'm almost on gas.
Hey, Lisa, give me.
No, we're not going to play a lot with this. You have to do a little tiny sprinkle. A little tiny sprinkle, Right? What's going on?
We were.
We got. We got mud. All right, time to do family stuff. And I can't really partake of family stuff if I'm holding the camera the whole time. So I'll see you in the next video. Don't forget, the link below to the icon design course with Adobe Illustrator is right down there.
