Last week in my studio

This is a YouTube video titled "Last week in my studio" containing a personal vlog recorded in March 2017. The speaker, Sam, shares a detailed day-in-the-life narrative about his work designing an app and icons, his commute, and reflections on productivity and work-life balance. The content is a monologue without multiple speakers and focuses on creative work and daily routines.
Hey Aaron, I thought you said pretend. Well, now we're not pretending. Just doing a little design here. What do you think? What are you thinking? I'm thinking that it's pretty good. I had to rush out of the house this morning. I'm a little bit late. I've got a meeting at 8:15. It's going to take me another 10 minutes to get there. It's already 8:11, but sometimes that's just how it goes. I'm on my way to the Wesley foundation, which is a campus ministry in Athens, Georgia, which is also happens to be the place where my wife and I worked for the first year of our marriage back in 2005. 12 years ago. I cannot believe it's been that long. Anyways, I'm helping them design an app to track their discipleship program. And now entering the beautiful University of Georgia campus. Sama some documentation gear. Okay. Hey Aaron, I thought you said pretend now. We're not pretending. Just doing a little design here. Make a little YouTube video out of this later. Here we go. What do you think? What are you thinking? You know, I'm thinking that it's pretty good. Okay. All right. Productive. Meeting at Wesley, Got some good wireframes done. Now it's time to go to the office and get some icons designed. First, a pit stop by Dunkin Donuts. I had to run early this morning. Did not get breakfast. America runs on Duncan and some mornings so do I. Yeah, the vlog's back. Welcome back. This is always the awkward part. Coming and picking up the camera. So this is going to be the last full week that I'm in this office. Maddox and Kyle and myself got this office about a year ago, almost to the month. And this is our last week here. We're going to be moving to a warehouse just over there and I'll show it to you really soon. I'm going to finish watching Casey's vlog today. I'm going to stand up right there at my standing desk. Probably prop up on that stool right there as well. But other than that, I'm going to be in here for the next seven hours. Minus lunch maybe. Sometimes I skip lunch. I'm just going to be cranking. I'm just going to do a quick little time lapse, maybe record my screen and that's it. And my external monitor just stopped working. It's like super hot to the touch. This is not the first time that my external monitor has stopped working, but it hasn't done it in a while. Feels super hot. Like even the power it's not even working. That's not good. All right. Last time I had to like unplug this thing and then plug it back in. I don't think I've checked the fuse or anything. All right, so at least now I'm getting it. Getting a little power now. So I was only using that, the larger external for just some documents and stuff. But because this screen, this screen's not retina. This one is. I'm typically working on the screen anyway because. Just crispier. All right, I'm gonna get back to it. It's Sam. Just got done with my goal amount of icons that I wanted to design for today. So now I'm gonna work on a little mini site cheat sheet kind of page so the client can toggle between the sizes and filter for things. Something very simple. So I've got like an hour before I need to leave to go home, hang out with the family. So all in all, pretty good stuff happening today. Pleased with the amount of work that I've done. So good stuff. All right, back to work for another hour. All right, it is now 5 o'. Clock. It is time to pack it up and head out. It's always fun when you, when you kind of hit a groove and there. There's definitely projects where you feel like working really hard. It's a little, little too tight there. There's projects where you, where you get really into it and all you want to do is work on that project. And then there's other client work or other. Just random projects where you just procrastinate really, really hard. And I certainly have both all the time, whether it's client work or personal work. You know, sometimes I can do a lot of work. Sometimes it's just like a struggle to like pulling teeth. And I think a lot of it has to do with focus and distraction for the most part. I feel like doing these videos helps me focus more too, because it's like if I'm going to be recording stuff, I need to be focused. If I'm going to be spending time messing with the camera, then I really need to optimize my time behind the computer and I just don't have time to be distracted all day long. So it's kind of like a double benefit that I get to document it and get more work done. So feeling very productive today. Time to call it a day. Time to pack up and head home maybe and back to like feeling productive and feeling really excited about a project. I'm really digging into this icon project most of the time. It's like heavy UX work, really, like, thoughtful, like brain crunching and I don't know, like icon. It's like a different side of your brain. So I'm just like almost zoning out and moving shapes around until they look good. All right, let's get out of here. Oh man, the weather is so nice. I always try to be home by 5:30. Sometimes it's 5:35 and I feel like a little bit guilty sometimes. I mean, sometimes I just, you know, I've text my wife and tell her that I have to be late because I'm working on a deliverable or something like that. And she understands. But for the most part, try to be home before 5:30 on the dot just so I have plenty of time to hang out with the kids and to, you know, unwind. Sa Sam. Ram Sam.
