WE GOT A PUPPY

Matt D. Smith picks up a new puppy and gives a tour of his sound booth and lighting setup. He also updates on his design tutorials and hints at a secret project he's working on.
Golly.
Hello there. Today is Friday 27th January 2017. I haven't recorded anything all day but I have been making some more progress on that secret project that I mentioned in the last video. So pretty pumped about that. It's like quarter til five. I'm about to leave. I'm gonna go pick up a new puppy. A little mini golden doodle. My second born son is turning 7 and the kids have no idea that we're going to go get this dog. We've kind of been like hinting at it over the last little bit, but today is the day. Oh, and by the way, I'm inside of my sound booth here that I built and I really built this for like screen recording and audio before. I knew I was going to do a lot of this. And I put in some lights up here that you can turn off with a switch and it definitely casts a nasty shadow on the old eye holes. But I've got a light coming so bear with me just a few more videos until I get that thing installed anyway. Alright, off to get the dog. I got this box from Maddox and.
Kyle.
That I'm going to try to use. Their control card game came in this. I'm going to see if it's big to fit the dog in for a surprise. I have acquired the puppy. Now we're gonna drive to my house and surprise the kids. Got the little guy in here. Kind of feel bad for putting him in the box but it's just gonna take just a second.
It's a giant ruby.
Let me show you. It's so cool.
I knew it was his name. I knew it. I told you he was helping out again. I need to tell Rachel Melt.
Oscar, are you feeling a little insecure?
Can I open this? Can I open this?
The Oscar's been a little insecure, but it'll be okay.
I just feel sad for Oscar.
Oscar has a friend to play with now.
Around so he can get a daily crate someday.
So I just got a package that's probably, that's probably too far. This is a refurbished model. I saved like 50 or $70 by getting this one. It's one of those halo lights. They were actually back ordered but the refurbished one which has been tested and inspected said it was good. Save some money. We will see how it goes. This bag mount thing. All right, let's try this thing out. Wow. All right, testing, testing. One, two, three. I'm headed to my office to try out this new prismatic halo light. I'm still missing like the base stand I did not order a stand because I want to mount it inside of my sound booth and a stand is just going to take up too much space. So I'm probably going to mount it to the back wall. But I wasn't sure of like how that attached. So I instagrammed my friend Alicia colon mad shout out to her. She answered my question about like standard lighting. Brack. And that's as dim as it gets.
Hey guys, even with this hat on, it's great.
So that's super bright. So technically you're supposed to be like a minimum of two feet away from it. Especially with like no other light. This looks pretty sweet.
Like one foot away, I feel like. Yeah, with the blur that you get in the background.
Oh, you know what you could do is take the F stop down and then go super low ISO, which it may already be a super low.
Oh yeah, that looks good.
But that would make it even blurrier. Of course, the day I come in and record it, I got like a nice little friend over here.
Oh, he'll disappear in the light though, don't he?
He's not. He's holding the bomb.
He's totally holding the bomb.
That might be a little bright. That's all the way bright. And then all the way down. Seems kind of more natural.
Yeah, that thing's awesome. This is next level Matt. Big YouTuber right here.
All right, guys, see y'. All. See you, man. Sorry I haven't posted any design videos. I really wanted to get cranking on like the design tutorials. I wanted to get my lighting situation set up in a bunch of icon design videos. Still haven't quite finished editing that course together. And I've been also doing a lot of legwork on my super secret project. That will be amazing. It's just gonna be amazing. And I'm also kicking off a new client, you know, get all of that in place. So it's just been kind of crazy and. But I want to continue to be diligent to post a video every Tuesday and Thursday. So when I don't have, you know, design videos to post, I'm just going to have some type of status update, some kind of vlog. My goal is to post mostly design related videos, things that are going to be helpful, speed up your workflow, all of that good stuff. I have a plan to produce Adobe XD video on Thursday because I'm about to use Adobe XD for some wireframes and prototypes for the first part of my next project. And just to give you an idea of what that workflow looks like I'm gonna be gonna be doing like low fidelity designs and just kind of linking up the entire experience so the developer on this particular project can get a full understanding of the data structure and the architecture that would go behind it. And they've already started working on it, so it's not going to be a complete surprise. Any Adobe XD will help me put those prototypes together really quickly. I've relied a lot on flowcharts in the past, and I'm trying to break myself of the habit of always doing flowcharts because they look nice and you can make them look really cool and I think they can be helpful sometimes. But no one ever experiences an app in a flowchart kind of way. So I like the idea of just digging right into the designs with XD and, and testing it while you're designing it. So I'm going to do that first and then at some point I'm going to switch to sketch to build out the UI library and all that good stuff. Stay tuned for some XD videos, stay tuned for Intro to Icon, the entry level Illustrator course. And also stay tuned for the super secret project that I have in the works. It's going to be amazing. All right, later. It's a crazy world we live in. If you're gonna get more work done at night, at least you can do it together.
