YouTube's NEW VR Lab

A tour of YouTube's new VR lab in San Francisco with Josh Austin. The speaker visits YouTube headquarters and Adobe to film interviews, documenting the facilities and tech demos in a casual vlog format.
Hello there. So today I am headed to San Francisco for one day. Adobe has an interview series on YouTube called Make It A month or so ago. They reached out to me and asked if I would want to be on the show. And of course I said I would love to. So I'm going to fly to San Francisco today, film tomorrow morning, and then head right back. All right. To the airport. I go. Literally, the only clothes that I'm bringing, I mean, it's only for tonight and tomorrow, and I'm coming right back. So surely that shouldn't be a problem. Made it to the airport. Got plenty of time. Should be good to go. Just need to pack up real quick. Probably should have seen if all this stuff would fit before I drove all the way to the airport. Maybe we won't bring the water. That should do it. All right, thanks so much, man. Appreciate it. All right. Finally made it. Okay. I don't know where my room is.
So.
Remember when I was telling you that I was gonna pack just a tiny amount of clothes, just like clothes for tomorrow, some clothes to run in. I forgot that it was like kind of cold in San Francisco. Sometimes it's like 58 degrees outside. And I did not bring a jacket, so I'm going to rough it with no jacket. Don't forget, if you go to San Francisco, bring a jacket, it's going to be in the 60s, maybe the 50s, and it's not going to get higher than 70. And if that wind starts blowing in, you're going to be a little bit chilly. So last time I was here, I don't feel think that I knew there was a pool, but I just looked online and apparently there is a pool on the 16th floor. I'm on the 17th floor, and I just got done with a run. Pretty sweet building. So I'm gonna go check it out. And I just so happened to bring this little guy, little GoPro hero session. I'm gonna take this with me and go check out the pool. And we're live. Switching to GoPro. 3, 2, 1. All right, let's go check out the pool. My room is really far away from the elevators, and I can't seem to find the elevator very easily. Just like this maze of hotel carpet and hotel doors. It. It's cold when you get out. Very, very cold. Back to the room now. 8:41 on the west coast, but my body feels like it's 1141. And I was thinking about going to get some Thai food, but now I don't want to leave the hotel. And Walk by myself to eat Thai food by myself. So I'm gonna look at the menu and order something, either to the room or go downstairs and eat in the hotel restaurant. I think that's pretty much gonna have to do it for today. So let's just fast forward to tomorrow morning where I will take you to Adobe, show you their office, let you see the set of make it Ouch. Hit my knee. And now it's morning. Got some coffee. Now it's time to get ready to go to Adobe. Even though, like yesterday I was upset I didn't bring a jacket. Today when I'm packing to, I'm pretty excited. I have just, like, a few things to throw in my bag and I can leave. And I just got notified that my flight got delayed by like 40 minutes, which means I might have time to swing by YouTube and go see my friend Josh Austin, who works there and take you along to the beautiful YouTube headquarters. I've never been there. I'm super pumped, so hopefully that can happen. I bought a little lint roller from H and M last night. When you wear, like 90% black shirts, lint rollers are a must. How's it? They're going? Good. Good. Hello, I'm Carrie. Carrie, good to meet you. I'm Michelle. Michelle, good to meet you. Thanks for coming. Appreciate it. I'm check. I'm about to check in behind. Okay, cool.
All right. So this is Stacy's chair.
Okay. Do I need to hang out here? Yeah. Okay. Can I get you some water or anything? Yeah, water would be great. Paul. Tranny, ladies and gentlemen. We just got our hair and makeup done. Do we look okay?
We look probably the same as usual like this. As you know.
I did bring a red shirt that I don't want to wear just in case, but. No, you.
You do you.
All right, let's check out these rigs over here. Nobody's really done that. Oh, really? Ok. On the set. Oh, yeah. Need some of these lights for my office.
That's kind of nice, though.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hi. About halfway done. All right. Just got done. Now I got to catch an Uber. Me. I didn't have the notifications. Was it fall? There it is. All right, thanks a lot. I'm at the mothership, the YouTube headquarters. San Francisco. What's up, dude?
How are you?
I've been so good. It's been forever, dude.
I haven't seen you in forever.
On the cat On.
All right.
Don't mind me.
Dude, People here are talking.
No, come on. You're you're gonna be in it, dude.
I'm so stoked you came. All right, man.
Boom. I think I've seen either yours or someone else. Like, some bands play out here sometimes.
Yeah, dude, Every Friday. Every.
All right, man.
Okay. So.
All right. Josh Austin giving us a tour.
Beginning the tour. This is our main building. Most everyone's in this one. We have this building, that building, and the building across the street. So three here. And it's all YouTube, so no goof.
Like, no goo stuff.
This is all YouTube. This is all. Almost all engineering and design, mostly in the other buildings, like, business and partnerships. And for every like. Like, creators, they all, like, once you hit a certain threshold, you get, like, your own account person type thing.
Oh, okay. Currently, no1hasyoutube.comMDS really? Make sure you subscribe to this so I get closer to that.
I'll show you our VR lab. We built this lab out right before I switched tunes, but it's pretty dope lab.
Nice. Virgin wall reality.
Somebody already messed with this a little bit, but you're in an app called Tilt Brush. Okay. With your right hand, pull the. There's a trigger on your finger here.
Change colors.
Yeah, look at. There's a panel. Yeah, right there. Oh, dude, the MDS logo.
Looks like I can get behind.
Yeah, walk behind, dude.
Oh, my gosh. That crazy. That's crazy.
Pretty sweet, right? There's tons of brushes, too, you can mess with.
That's wild, dude.
Don't get tripped up to me if you're about to trip.
I think we're good. That's pretty awesome. You just forget that you're in there. You're like, oh, I'm in a room.
But there's snacks over there if you want to get anything for your flight.
Some artisanal nuts over here.
With some normal stuff.
I'm just not. I'll eat an artisanal nut.
Those are good.
I'll take one of those. You know what? I really just need to get it on the slide for a little while, but then just give me.
I used it. So my desk used to be, like, right up there.
That's pretty awesome. All right, YouTube slide. We're leaving YouTube, and we're headed over to YouTube. This is the coffee bar, YouTube. Thank you, Josh Austin, for the fabulous YouTube tour. I really appreciate it. Now it's time to grab my stuff and go to the airport.
Thanks, man.
Appreciate it.
Take.
All right, that's going to conclude the San Francisco trip. I'm going to end it right there. Thanks for checking it out. And I'll see you in the next video.
Nice. Yeah, we just built this out. This is all just for VR.
Where's, like, the room monitors? Like, you're getting close to the wall and stuff like that up here.
So we hang. We hit. We, like, hit them all. Nice. Oh, dang. Me and me and.
That is insane.
