Megan Killion argues cold calling should match your company values. Skip the aggressive dial-and-book approach and interruptive openers. Build long-term relationships through thoughtful outreach instead.

Part of what we're looking for from people who are good at cold calling is how do we kind of implement those workflows in a call environment? Because most of the cold calling advice out there is heavy on the like, just dial and book the meeting. And that's really not our culture and it's not the way we like to treat our clients. We're building a long-term relationship. We're going to be working very in-depth with them over the course of their contract. We don't want to start things off by being like, Hey, I know I'm interrupting your day, which like, in my opinion, the worst cold call opener is to like be like, hey, I know what I'm doing is annoying, but do you have 20 minutes to give me, person that you've never met before, for absolutely no reason? I haven't even told you why I'm calling you yet. Like that, that feels so terrible when you're on the receiving end of it. I'm kind of looking for advice to bring our values that are living really well in messaging today into a call culture.
