Black Panther T'Challa Recast

Marvel could revive T'Challa through Wakandan tech, a multiverse variant, aging up his son, or an alternate universe merge. The host evaluates potential recasts like Aldis Hodge, Javon Adepo, John David Washington, and John Boyega, weighing their action experience and type-casting risks against rumors of Denzel Washington for Black Panther 3.

Welcome back to the channel, guys. I hope you're having a great evening. So you've probably been seeing, making its rounds, the recasting of T'Challa of the Black Panther series movies, uh, in the, um, unfortunately untimely passing of the late, great Chadwick Boseman, who played the King of Wakanda. Right. So for years now, it's been a push to have him recast. Right. And there's been these rumors circulating that that is what might be happening. Right. Of course, that brings up many questions as Chadwick Boseman or, you know, the actor who played T'Challa, you know, both actually died. He— so T'Challa actually died in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever film. And so how do you bring him back? Well, with the technology that Wakanda has, I guess it wouldn't be so far-fetched as to kind of be like, hey, well, you know, we kept him on ice. You know, we found a cure for his disease, this unfortunate disease, and now we can revive him. You know, if you want to keep the character in that timeline, right, in that particular, uh, universe. Now, of course, one of the formulas that Marvel uses a lot is the multiverse, right? And so that, that moves a lot of people to go, well, hey, uh, why not just have a variant of T'Challa come in from another dimension as such, and, uh, he becomes King of Wakanda, right? But using that as this kind of plot device, right? Uh, you know, it's just, um, you know, a lot of people just don't like that, right? Using, you know, using that as a get out of, you know, get out of a problem card, right? Some people just don't like that, right? Uh, although it's been used so much with Marvel now, it would seem like the easiest way to go. Uh, let's explore some more ideas, as some people just wouldn't like that. The other one would be aging up his son, who is also named T'Challa, right? Um, aging him up, uh, and, uh, I don't know exactly how they would do that, how many years would pass. What was he like, maybe 10 years old or something? Uh, so you age him up and, uh, he's 20 years old now or whatever, he's a young man. Uh, then you have to find maybe a young character to play him. Uh, I don't know. The other thing is, or, or another would possibly be just kind of having T'Challa exist in a universe where he was kind of just always there, similar to like how what they might be doing with the Fantastic Four. Fantastic Four, uh, it seems like it's set in another universe. It looks like it might be the 1960s or something. It's not our prime universe. And, uh, you know, if that particular Fantastic Four will, uh, basically integrate into the Marvel Universe, as you know, the main timeline and such, uh, they would have to cross over to our universe. And I'm not sure if they're going to do that in the movie, but from what I've heard and what I've seen, uh, this Fantastic Four doesn't look like they even are part of our traditional, you know, universe. This looks like it's out of time, so to speak. Uh, so the next thing would be, let's say they get past that, they get beyond that, uh, and the rumors are true, right? We know there is a Black Panther 3 movie coming up, um, and that Denzel Washington will be in it. Now, will he be playing a Black Panther? Will he be playing an older Black Panther uh, and doing action scenes kind of like he does in The Equalizer. I don't know, but one thing I've learned about when you bring Denzel Washington in the movie, the last thing you want to do is underuse him, right? And so Gladiator 2 showed us just how much they did use him. I was surprised. I thought he was going to have a little bit more, uh, sideline role, but no, he was a main character, if not the main character, in that film. So But anyway, let's look at some of the candidates, what some people are saying with people who would make good Black Panthers. Uh, now this guy Aldis Hodge seems to be like one of the number one guys. You know, if you're not familiar with him, he's in a— playing a series, Alex Cross, the Detective Alex Cross. Uh, he was Hawkman, uh, you know, in the, uh, Black Adam, right, films, right? Oh, I think he did a great job. I think this guy would be an excellent Black Panther, he just looks the part, right? He looks, uh, very well matched the part. Now, if he played the son T'Challa, you know, again, you know, I don't know what the age of these actors are, but I, you know, you have to do some serious aging up, right, to cover many of these candidates, right? But if he's going to come over from another universe, you know, he looks like he would be a great a great potential person. Now this guy is Javon, Javon Adepo, right? Now some people probably not very familiar with this character. I'm familiar with him because, uh, I enjoy his work in The Three-Body Problem, right? Uh, I got into that Netflix show based on the book. Uh, he was also in a film called Babylon, I recall. I believe he was a trumpeter. Uh, but he's a, he's a, he's a pretty darn good actor himself. Now, would he be my first choice for Black Panther? I don't see the, the action part there with, with, uh, Javon Adepo. To me, he kind of comes off, you know, he plays a scientist in The Three-Body Problem, so I'm more accustomed to seeing him in that, in that part more so than superhero action hero. So, uh, yeah, and it's saying here he was okay, he was in Mother, he was in Babylon, He's been in quite a lot of stuff. Um, of course, John David Washington, right? That's Denzel's son. So how interesting would it be to see John David Washington alongside Denzel Washington? That kind of does kind of make you think, right? Uh, but again, you know, John David Washington, he's not a particularly older character, right? Uh, he's, you know, he's old, but he's not, you know, I don't think he's older than these other candidates that they've shown here, right? But I, I, a lot of people would love to see him as that, as that role. But, um, you know, when you get into characters this big and you're getting along in your acting career, for some people that kind of concern of the typecasting or even, uh, being compared to Chadwick Boseman, um, you know, when you're on a level like John David Washington, I don't know if that would be a role that he would be you know, going after Hard. I just don't know. It all depends, right, on how he sees this character. But of course, you know, John David Washington's been a great deal of things, right? But it would be interesting to see him alongside his father. Now, of course, you have John Boyega. You know, of course, John from Star Wars and many other things. He was in The Woman King, which I didn't see. Uh, but he certainly can pull off
