Star Trek Discovery - Awesome Official Trailer/Thoughts

In this YouTube reaction video, the host enthusiastically reviews the official trailer for Star Trek: Discovery, praising its high‑budget, movie‑level production values and visual polish. He compares the aesthetic to the Kelvin‑timeline films, noting lens flares and a bridge design that feels more like a cosmetic showroom than a naval vessel, and expresses disappointment with the high‑collar, dress‑uniform look, preferring a more practical jumpsuit style. The host discusses the series’ lead, Sonequa Martin‑Green’s half‑Vulcan Lieutenant Commander, her potential relationship with Ambassador Sarek, and how her human‑centric arc contrasts with Spock’s Vulcan‑focused journey. He examines the new Klingon design, finding the alien‑like appearance refreshing and speculating on a sarcophagus‑ship ceremony that may involve a king’s succession or resurrection. The video also reflects on the broader TV landscape, arguing that Discovery must balance sophisticated, serious storytelling with comic relief to stay competitive against shows like Game of Thrones and Westworld. Finally, the host clarifies the distribution plan—first two episodes airing on CBS, with the series on CBS All Access (potentially a trial for skeptics)—and ends with a call to action for likes, subscriptions, and viewer feedback.

Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. And finally we got it, guys, we finally got the official trailer to Star Trek Discovery scheduled to air this fall on CBS All Access. And guys, my earlier video I did about why I think this may actually end up being the best best Star Trek TV show, uh, so far, uh, everything, uh, to me looks on par with that. And, uh, I really just loved everything I saw in this trailer. It, um, uh, comforted me on a lot of my fears, and I think a lot of you guys' fears about, uh, what the look of the show was going to be like. And if you all recall, if you have been a subscriber to the channel, if you've been tuning into the channel and you saw my, um, review on the very first Star Trek, um, teaser trailer when everybody was kind of flipping out, uh, I was saying that no, this is no way how this is going to look, that with this high budget that they have on the show, and it is 15 episodes they're doing that we were going to get something totally different and a lot better. Now, that said, there are some things that I didn't like about this, about this trailer and the direction they're going in. But for the most part, I liked everything else. There were just a few things I didn't like, and we'll talk about that right now. One thing about the trailer, I mean, it looked great. It was, uh, the visuals were awesome. They didn't look cheap or low budget. They looked to me, um, movie production quality, uh, you know, very, very well done. Like, you know, like they, they're not worried about money here. They're not worried about trying to save money. Everything looked great. But, uh, one issue, uh, I, I, you know, looking back and just looking at the total look of, you know, what we're gonna get in the whole feel of the show is that this is supposedly, or is going to go with prime time Star Trek. And I don't think they had to do that. I think based on the look and feel of this, they should have just went ahead and went with the Kelvin look, you know, Kelvin timeline look, because this looks very reminiscent of the Kelvin timeline, the style of it, everything, all the lens flares, which don't bother me. Those bother a lot of people. I kind of like it. Also, as we're getting this look at the Shinzu on the bridge, I like this look as well. You know, if we recall, if we looked at the Star Trek reboot movies, you know, even though again, like I said, this has the feel of those, you know, we noticed that the bridge is in the setup there, a very clinical look. It looked almost— some people said it looks almost like a cosmetic parlor in the mall or something, and you know, the Enterprise above the Enterprise. And I like more of a look like this, more like a naval vessel, a battle vessel, you know, something that's more fitting of that. And I would have liked to see something, you know, but we may get that. I believe we have Captain Pike who would be commanding the Enterprise during this time frame. And we may get the look aboard the Enterprise, but my view is that it'll be a much different looking bridge than probably what we got from Star Trek Beyond. Also, with the uniforms, I had speculated that due to this high collar and this kind of ceremonial look to the uniform that it was a dress uniform. And to me, it still looks like a dress uniform. That part of it I don't like. I was kind of— I hope that they would have went with a, you know, more of a, you know, more, more close to like the how it looked on the, you know, US Kelvin timeline uniforms. Because, you know, again, guys, you know, the whole feel of this show is Kelvin timeline. So I, again, I don't understand what was the significance of going, okay, we're going to go with Prime, you know, Prime, Prime, the Prime line. But You know, but this obviously looks, you know, a lot closer to that. Um, you know, we also got in the trailer, we got to see some interesting things about, uh, Shaniqua Martin-Green's character here, uh, who's playing the Lieutenant Commander, you know. Um, you know, as well as her being at one of those crossroads or put in one of those, uh, uh, you know, situations where, hey, it's kind of time for you to get your own command. What's going on? Why haven't you got your own command with Captain Shinzu talking to her. We also get to learn she's half Vulcan, and Ambassador Sarek, or Spock's father, is talking to her about, you know, her half-human side, you know, keeping her from being— or will prevent her from being able to speak the Vulcan tongue properly. So, you know, apparently she's going to have trouble with that if she can speak it at all. But also what's kind of interesting about her being a half Vulcan, uh, and having some type of relationship with Ambassador Sarek. Uh, what I find interesting is, you know, her path seems very much unlike Spock's, you know, in which Spock was half Vulcan and Spock's intention was to, uh, really be Vulcan. You know, he, you know, he eventually wants to, uh, you know, uh, move on, uh, to, you know, becoming embracing the full Vulcan culture. You know, he, he doesn't really want to be human, whereas in Sonequa Martin-Green's character, it seems like she's pretty much just embracing being human, you know, uh, you know, as far as I could see in the trailers. Um, but guys, I, I love what I'm seeing so far. Uh, you know, I want to move on to what we got with the Klingons. Now, a lot of people are complaining about the, about the look of the Klingons, about their roles and, uh, things like that. But here's what I want to say about the Klingons, guys. Doesn't really bother me, you know, about the look of the Klingon so much. I think, you know, at least this is my impression of it, you know, you go back to especially how the Klingon started out in the Star Trek Original Series, you know, where they were, you know, more humanoid looking and things like that. It doesn't bother me that The Klingons are very alien-like looking, so I don't know if they're looking like this due to some type of genetic experiment or if there's some type of, you know, other version of Klingon. So far what we're getting, there doesn't seem to be a distinction with these Klingons or any other Klingons that we can tell so far in this series other than they look like this. And that doesn't bother me. These Klingons look more alien And, you know, sometimes I think it is important to have a very clear distinction between a human species, you know, in contrast to humanoid species, because these Klingons, I think, look a lot more alien to us. And I think that that's, you know, sometimes what can happen is, you know, I've watched on some of the a lot of Star Trek TV series where you have this kind of humanoid-looking alien. He may have a few very simple details that distinguish him from aliens, a few ridges on the nose, funny ears or something like that, but other than that, looks like a complete human. And so them going and making these Klingons very alien-like, very kind of disturbing to look at in a sense. Doesn't bother me. It makes them feel a lot more alien, and that's what the Star Trek universe is all about— discovering very alien beings. And, you know, I just like the look of the Klingons. I like the feel of it, the look of it. And apparently we get the shot on the sarcophagus ship, and there's a lot going on with that that we're not really aware of. You know, the king here is talking and They have some sarcophagus or ceremony or burial ceremony or revival ceremony going on. Not really sure what's happening yet, but there's some type of important event happening with the Klingons on their sarcophagus ship, whether they have the remains of some, you know, ancient warrior that's important to them, or they're trying to resurrect one, or whether it's a kind of a passage to the new king now becoming the king of the Klingons. I don't know yet, but I really love how this show's looking. And my earlier predictions, if you know, again guys, if you didn't see my very first video on why this will end up being the best Star Trek TV series, you know, I think I just like the feel of it. I think, you know, the on regular television when we got all the other Star Treks that as Trekkers and Trekkies we've grown to love, and the various characters, the various humor. You know, I think due to the nature of our audience today, it's become very competitive, as I touched on in my earlier videos. And, you know, we're up against all these shows, these Game of Thrones, Westworld, American Gods, and You know, the evolution of TV. Everybody wants to, uh, you know, they want their shows to be kind of taken serious now. They don't want to be taken as a joke. And, uh, you know, that's not to say that, um, you know, uh, that it's not charming to have light humor in episodes and things like that. And I, I like that too. You don't— we don't always want to be on this path, you know, where, uh, you know, we're watching this show and it's all, all you know, all these serious events happening all the time and there's no relief, there's no comic relief, there's none of that. But I do understand the need to push Star Trek to a more sophisticated storytelling device in its evolution of Star Trek. So I do understand that. So I'm not against that. I think that's what I'm getting to see And this one, yes, this feels a lot like the J.J. Abrams feel of Star Trek where they, you know, from the movie transition, uh, it speaks a lot more to that, uh, situation. But I'm excited about this, guys. I like what I'm seeing. Uh, I wasn't disappointed with anything I saw except the uniform. I, I look really looking at how they're doing, I just thought it's a little bit too flashy. I would have liked to see I want to see something a little bit more practical, something a lot more like a jumpsuit like we saw back in Star Trek, uh, you know, Beyond, or even like what we saw on, um, Star Trek Enterprise, you know, with Captain Archer's crew. I want to see something a lot more simple. This looks, um, you know, like kind of like, um, you know, they're prancing around in dress uniforms and things like that. Didn't so much like that. But guys, all in all, really like what I'm seeing. I'm very excited. Uh, also guys, for a lot of you guys who really didn't like it appearing on CBS All Access. You know, we're saying that, you know, that you don't want to pay for it, rather be on regular TV, or if it's even going to be good enough to pay for. Well, I can say this, from what we're understanding now, the first 2 episodes will air on CBS. So I'm under the assumption then that I'm thinking they're talking about regular CBS. Uh, and then they're gonna air on Netflix, unless they mean just CBS and Netflix, but I think the first two. So, uh, if you don't have CBS All Access, maybe that'll give you a trial, see if you like it, see if it's worth paying for, see if it's something you want to do. But guys, so far I love it. I, I think it's awesome, and, uh, I will be tuning in. Uh, but guys, if you like content like this, don't forget to like and subscribe. Tell me what you thought about this latest trailer. Tell me, are you excited about Star Trek Discovery as I am? If not, Tell me why you're not. I'd love to hear it. And until next time, guys, take care.
