Star Trek Discovery - Captain's Chair Timeline Clue?

The captain's chair in the new Star Trek Discovery trailer might reveal when the show takes place. Its design echoes the 2009 reboot's look but appears simpler than Kirk's era, suggesting the story could be set ten years before The Original Series.

Hey guys, welcome back to— and today we're going to take a look at the captain's chair as released in the last trailer of the Star Trek Discovery production set to be released in May of this year. So One thing that was of interest to me during the trailer is we get to see what the captain's chair is going to look like. And it kind of dawned on me that throughout the Star Trek series, one of the things that's been a focal point has been the captain's chair and who's sitting in the captain's chair at a particular, you know, episode, in particular scene. But as well, our attention has been drawn to the design of the captain's chair. And we've seen several designs throughout the television series, but they all kind of had certain things in common. If we take like Star Trek: The Next Generation, they had a particular specific seating arrangement where you have executive officers and the captain, kind of seated around each other and kind of more in closer proximity to one another. Whereas if you look back at the older episodes, the captain was kind of like, you know, sitting in the middle of the bridge, kind of solo, you know, kind of, uh, you know, and his executive officers was kind of— were kind of at stations, you know. They were kind of at stations, uh, doing, you know, doing— performing particular tasks as well. They weren't like, um, kind of how like you probably see it, uh, you know, more so in today's military operations or how we got in the later future line Star Treks where they had more of this kind of area where they could go over battle plans and they weren't at, say, a particular workstation or something like that or performing a certain task. So I think what that does, guys, is that kind of gives us a clue into what exact timeline we may be looking at here. And from the look at this chair and just, uh, based on some of the things I just mentioned, I'm definitely thinking this is going to be a timeline of the past. So the rumor about maybe that timeline being 10 years before Kirk comes on the scene, um, uh, that might very well be true. I could see that, uh, happening, uh Definitely. And another thing, here's some more information. Let me see if I can pull it up. Look at the 2009 reboot chair, and I believe this is a prop piece of the chair. And yeah, this is from the 2009 Star Trek reboot. That's the actual chair used in the movie, but as you can see, it kind of has similar style shape as the chair in that we just saw from the Star Trek Discovery trailer, and just how the chairs looked in the earlier, you know, timeline Star Treks. But I just found that interesting, guys. I haven't heard any news since I'm doing this. At the time I'm doing this video, I'm not aware of any information on what the timeline will be. Uh, maybe I missed it. If you guys have heard, uh, more, uh, specific or definitive information about when the timeline is set to occur, please feel free to comment, let me know about it, as I'm not aware of that. But, uh, you know, as far as I know right now, the timeline hasn't been determined. So just kind of dawned on me that, hey, the chair could give us a clue, because this chair— the chairs, as I said earlier, chairs have always been a focal point for the Captain in the Star Trek series. But in addition to that, I've also heard online and I've seen some footage of some of the instrument clusters and panels, and these instrument clusters and panels look a great deal like some of the ones used in the Star Trek reboots. So maybe that might give us some clues as well as to where that timeline will be. But anyway, guys, um, just thought that was interesting. Uh, don't forget to like and subscribe if you like information and videos like this. That way, that lets me know that I should be bringing more of this information to you guys as it becomes available. And, uh, until next time, guys, take care.
