Star Trek Discovery - Premiere! (Tonite)

Star Trek: Discovery premieres tonight at 8:30 PM EST on CBS with two episodes. The season has 17 episodes instead of the expected 13, and early screenings suggest it returns to classic Trek themes of politics and science rather than the action-heavy reboot movies. After tonight, new episodes air on CBS All Access.

Hey you, welcome back to the channel. And guys, today exciting news, the premiere of Star Trek Discovery will air tonight at 8:30 PM, I believe Eastern Standard Time. Will air on CBS, the first 2 episodes. If, um, the information is correct. And, um, there will be 17 episodes for the entire season, which is pretty good. I thought it was originally only going to be about 13, but it's 17. That's good news. If the show is really good, uh, we'll get those additional episodes. Also, there have been pre-screenings to Star Trek: Discovery, and all of them seem to be well received. So all good news. I'm very excited about seeing the first episode tonight on CBS, and after the first 2 episodes, there will be, uh, the rest airing on CBS All Access, which we know is their streaming service. Now what I want to talk about today is a lot of controversy that's been around CBS All Access. A lot of people not wanting to pay for it. There is a free trial going on, so you can, under free trial, start now, watch these initial episodes. I believe they will be releasing one each week after that, after that point. And what I want to say about CBS All Access is that I did receive some news that I guess, you know, I could say is a little bit more comforting, and that is we won't— it won't be a situation where you just pay for CBS Access entire streaming service just to watch Star Trek: Discovery, because I was wondering how that was gonna work. I was like, well, the problem is, you know, we're gonna pay this money and we're basically just paying to watch this one show each month, but As I understand it, CBS All Access will, in addition to that, air several Star Trek series alongside it, you know, as CBS owns the franchise. So they will be airing different episodes, I believe The Next Generation, maybe Star Trek: Voyager, and some other things, as well as documentaries, you know, commentary on the Star Trek franchise and just giving, uh, you know, people who are Trekkers, Trekkies, uh, a little more bang for their buck. So if they're going to do something like that, I think that's gonna, you know, at least make that pill a little bit more easy to swallow, give us a little bit of sugar with the medicine, so to speak. Um, and, uh, so far just hearing that it's, uh, the pre-screeners were excellent that, you know, especially for those of us coming off some of these Star Trek movies that had those weird, you know, elements. Like, and I'll give you an example of what I mean. You can kind of see what's happening with the Star Trek reboots in the movies, kind of doing this, this mixture of, you know, kind of this humor Slash, and like what we got with the last movie, the director who did Fast and Furious, uh, he was involved. So you got this kind of Fast and Furious in space with a lot of action sequences, which, you know, a lot of Trekkers don't like. A lot of, uh, Trekkies don't like. A lot of Star Trek fans, uh, don't really watch Star Trek to see, uh, action sequences, to see specifically just battles in space, like maybe what you get with Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, things like that. You know, Star Trek has always as well been this very complete world of the politics of Star Trek, the principles of Star Trek, the values of Star Trek, and a lot of science, a lot of cerebral things that, you know, nerds, geeks, and Trekkies like. And so what I'm getting from the pre-screening is it's gonna— reviews— it's gonna be a lot more of the Star Trek that the fans have liked. And, you know, we'll be getting some of the things that were issues, you know, for us. And so that's all great and good to hear. So excited about this, guys. I can't wait to get through the first few episodes. I'd like to come back and do some reviews and commentary on those as well. Guys, tell me what you think. Are you gonna tune in tonight for Star Trek Discovery and, you know, see if this is gonna be the new way Star Trek is going forward? If this is gonna be something a lot of us expect accept and are on board with. Guys, if you like content like this, don't forget to like and subscribe. And until next time, take care.
