Startup - Cryptocurrency Tv Show Review (Spoilers) Ep.1

In this YouTube review, the host introduces the TV series Startup, explaining how the show unexpectedly centers on cryptocurrency. He outlines the main plot: Adam Brody’s character Nick, a young banker, is drawn into his father’s illegal money‑moving schemes; Izzy, a brilliant developer, creates a new cryptocurrency called GenCoin that promises untraceable, borderless transactions; Ronald is a drug‑related criminal chasing the money; and Martin Freeman’s FBI agent Philip Rask grapples with the temptation of corruption. The reviewer highlights how the series juxtaposes the positive potential of crypto—financial inclusion, wealth redistribution—with its darker uses such as drug trade and money laundering. He also delves into the moral gray area of law‑enforcement officers who might become “dirty cops” due to low pay and exposure to wealthy criminals. Throughout, the host connects the show’s narrative to real‑world crypto debates, noting that viewers don’t need prior crypto knowledge to follow the story. He praises the acting, especially Brody and Freeman, and mentions the cliffhanger ending that sets up season two. The review ends with a call to action for likes, subscriptions, and an invitation to future episode reviews.

Hey you, welcome back to the channel. And guys, today we're going to review the TV show Startup. And this show has, uh, become quite a surprise for me. Um, although I had been hearing about this show for about over a year now, I wasn't really aware of what the subject matter of the show was. And found out that it relates to the cryptocurrency space. And in this day and age and time, this, that is quite an interesting topic, from Bitcoins and everything that's going on in that world. But it's also very interesting to me as cryptocurrency is something I in particular have turned a lot of my attention to. If you watch a lot of my channel now, it's talking about cryptocurrencies a lot, and that seems to be what's going on with a lot of things online and just a lot of things in the world. Hard to watch a news show now without hearing something about Bitcoin. So all very interesting that they make this TV show that turned out to be quite good, not just because I'm interested in cryptocurrency, but just a good standalone show. I don't think you have to understand anything about cryptocurrencies to understand, you know, basically what's going on with this show. But I feel it's a well-acted show, and you know, some of the cast, you know, actually the person who's executive produced the show Adam Brody. A lot of us probably remember from shows like The O.C. He was in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and he does a good job in this show. He plays a young banker who we get to learn gets mixed up in a bad situation with his father. His father, who's obviously involved with some bad association and moving money that is dangerous, illegal money, millions of dollars, and he can end up dead as a result of it. So he enlists the help of his son, who's a banker, to help him move this money. This is done unwillingly by his son, who seems to have been caught in many of his tabaccos in the past and yet to be drawn into another one. But his, you know, the family connection, it being his father, draws him in, puts him in a tough situation. And I found that all very interesting. And we get this this, uh, character Izzy, who's the genius, the person who's creating the cryptocurrency known as GenCoin. And, um, you know, we get to learn that Izzy is driven, quite driven by, uh, creating this coin that can change the world. And this team of individuals who are coming into each other's, uh, worlds are, you know, are finding out that this coin is really tying them all together, much like, you know, what happens in the real crypto space. The many utilities and use cases for cryptocurrency to accomplish, you know, various things. And, you know, Izzy, as we got to see in her pitching to the bank, that this would allow people who to be able to have banks who don't normally have banks due to regulation. You know, it will allow people to move money any place in the world and give power back to the people. And there's a lot of reference to bitcoins, you know, obviously in the crypto space. Now we know the importance of bitcoins and what Bitcoins has been able to accomplish. And so they make these little references to Bitcoins, but Dizzy makes it clear that this is untraceable all the way, GenCoin, and that it's not like Bitcoins. And, uh, you know, obviously the anonymity of being untraceable is, you know, something that's going to be very attractive to many people. And we also get to meet, uh, Ronald And Ronald, we get to understand he's in the very dark, uh, world of crime and drugs. And, you know, all of this is kind of relative. If we think about, uh, you know, one of the main concerns about cryptocurrency has been, uh, the ability for people to purchase drugs with cryptocurrencies, to move money through drugs, or whether that be money used to afford illegal drugs or even terrorist activities. And this has been a big, a big, um, uh, you know, issue and discussion about cryptocurrencies and some of the dangers. But, um, you know, as Izzy had brought up, we also got to see— and that's what I like about the show— we got to see them touch on and all of these other great things that cryptocurrency can do— change the world by giving people the ability to move money, to, to have wealth distribution moving to parts of the world where people did not have it. And so all of these good things coming out of this, this cryptocurrency world, as well as coupled with the bad things, and we get to touch on that in this show. But perhaps the most interesting character to this show for me was played, or his character name, Martin Freeman, I believe his name. We know him from many things— The Hobbit, Fargo. But I believe his, the character's name is called Philip Rask, and he's an FBI agent. And You know, one thing I've always found interesting about the role of cops and law enforcement as they have this very close relationship with criminals is the temptation to stay clean and not be tempted to the dark side, not take money, not be on the take, not, you know, be dirty cops. And, uh, you know, it seems that realistically it's probably more, you know, more so that, you know, many people in law enforcement— I don't want to use the term many, but I would say that there are probably more situations than we're aware of or maybe would like to admit where you have a, uh, a law enforcement officer on a much lower salary than what he's dealing, or the people he's coming into contact with are criminals who've multimillion dollars and stealing of monies and drugs and various things, scams and corruption. And these cops, these law enforcement agents who have to bust these people on a day-to-day basis You know, it must, or I can see where it would come to a thought process of like, I'm risking my life out here every day, I'm doing the right things, and I have to see these people do these, commit these crimes every day and live these very material or materially satisfying lives, and I'm struggling to get, you know, send my kids to school, college. I'm struggling to put food on the table. And, you know, it's some— I can see psychologically some officers deciding that enough is enough, that they're going to you know, find a way to use their powers as law enforcement officers to put themselves in a situation where they don't have to deal with that. And I'm certain that, or I can believe that they would be able to justify that by saying that, uh, the, uh, these criminals, uh, shouldn't be able to do this when I'm doing this. But I also found the scene very powerful when I— when in the beginning where he's crossing that line to become this dirty cop, the criminal, or Nick's father, who's played by Adam Brody, is basically letting him know that, hey, you know, I thought you was one of the good guys. You know, I respected you to that point that you wouldn't go down this path. And, uh, you know, another fallen officer, law enforcement officer, seems to be something that's normal in the business of Nick's father in dealing, you know, with, you know, illegal money and moving money. And so, uh, really loved all of the acting and you know, the, you know, the subject matter of the show. And, you know, especially being into cryptocurrency at this point, most of my channel being about it now, I just find this to be a real treat. I'm going to continue to watch the show. And we're kind of left with a cliffhanger where Ronald, you know, it's chasing down this money. You know, we have a theme many times with the illegal money being moved by criminals, and it's always this brave lawyer or brave banker, you know, that are willing to risk their lives when dealing with these unscrupulous people. But they're willing to risk their lives to try to steal their money or move their money and various things like that. Uh, you know, a lot of times in these, the way things play out in these shows, obviously the criminals catch up with them and it's not good for them. So we get a similar situation to this where Ronald, it seems, is either looking for Nick's father or he seems to be looking for Nick himself. Uh, and apparently Nick's done something with money that belonged to him as he's left. And, um, you know, Ronald was in his house waiting for him at the end as we got to see. See. But, uh, guys, I like this show so far. Uh, I'm late finding this show, uh, you know, very interesting. But, uh, I, I, I can appreciate that as well because now I'll be able to, uh, just kind of binge watch the episodes. And I believe they're— they did get a season 2. They are on season 2. So obviously I have a lot to catch up with. So don't know if I'll do a combination of episodes. I may do that, or, uh, and try to catch up with the rest of you all who do watch the show and don't know about the show. And for those of you who aren't aware of the show, perhaps you can continue on with me and get some more information about, uh, you know, in our weekly reviews about the show, uh, especially if you're a cryptocurrency head like myself.
