Supergirl - Jason Momoa Cast As Lobo!

In this solo‑host YouTube commentary, the presenter welcomes viewers and dives into the recent casting news that Jason Momoa will portray the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in an upcoming Supergirl movie opposite Millie Alcott as Supergirl. He explains Lobo’s comic‑book origins – a near‑immortal Czarnian who can go toe‑to‑toe with Superman, possesses regenerative abilities, and rides a space motorcycle. The host references the live‑action Lobo appearance in the TV series Krypton (written by David S. Goyer, who also penned Man of Steel) and notes how that version showcased Lobo’s near‑invincibility. He then discusses DC’s recent casting shifts, contrasting Zack Snyder’s earlier choices (e.g., Momoa as Aquaman) with James Gunn’s new stewardship, highlighting Gunn’s prior collaboration with Snyder and his potential to revitalize the DC slate. The presenter predicts that under Gunn, DC could outpace Marvel, citing Gunn’s track record and the expanding character roster. Throughout, he expresses strong enthusiasm for Momoa’s fit as Lobo, confidence in Gunn’s direction, and invites audience interaction and subscription.

Welcome back to the channel. I hope you're all having a great evening. So guys, we got news that Jason Momoa is going to be playing, uh, Lobo and Supergirl's Woman of Tomorrow, um, which is going to be played by Millie Alcott from House of the Dragon, right? I thought she did a pretty good role in House of the Dragon. Now this is interesting because, um, uh, Jason Momoa is like— it— you can look at these side-by-side comparisons of, um, Jason Momoa and the character of Lobo And it's almost like Jason Momoa was the, uh, inspiration to create Lobo. You know, he, he looks like a perfect casting to play Lobo. And Lobo is a pretty interesting character. They call him the— I believe he refers to himself as the main man, right? He's a— he's— he's this chaotic creature from a race of a race called Zarnians, I believe, right? And I didn't get deep into, uh, Lobo, uh, Lobo, you know, as a character. But because of my, uh, you know, great love for Superman, he does pop up in the Superman universe quite a bit. Um, he can go toe-to-toe with Superman. So his species of aliens The Zarnians are quite powerful. Uh, he's a bounty hunter, right? So he goes around hunting, you know, intergalactically, you know, creatures out there. Um, and, you know, he goes around the Superman universe quite a bit, right? You know, if any— a lot of the Superman lore, uh, you know, we hear, uh, we hear, uh, the ideas of the 28 known galaxies and such. So the Kryptonians were well aware of the other civilizations out there as such. Now, Lobo again does pop up in Superman Comes. I'm not sure his affiliation with Supergirl though, not exactly sure what that is, but I can point to something quite interesting about the Lobo character. And this, this, this might be a thumbs up for the, for, for the, uh, for the Man of Steel fans, right? And that is that David S. Goyer wrote a television series called Krypton, right? Which isn't about Superman, but it's actually about Superman's grandfather, Segel. And, you know, basically went for about 2 seasons on the Syfy Channel. Right. And I like the series. I really did. You know, David S. Goyer, he wrote Man of Steel too. So that's, you know, where the connection is. But this series he does was pretty darn good. I don't, I don't think it should have been canceled. You know, I don't know if it was too expensive or they just, you know, what happened. I would have thought with Superman being such a popular character that Krypton should have lasted. But it's all very important because You do actually get a live-action version of Lobo in, uh, the Krypton series, and it might be some clips, some scenes from it on YouTube. And I thought that character they had playing Lobo was pretty darn good. But what you get to learn about Lobo is he's almost impossible to kill. Uh, you know, you cut him up, he can regenerate. I think they cut his head off you know, in the series. And he's like, nerve endings and tentacles grow out of his neck and reattach to his body. So this guy isn't easy to kill at all. And apparently he's going to be moving in the Supergirl movie, and he may have actually been in, uh, some stories with Supergirl. Um, but, uh, you know, James Gunn would know. Uh, he's pretty good at, uh, the comics and, uh, You know, also very interesting about the Jason Momoa situation is that Jason Momoa, um, you know, if many of us remember back, uh, when, uh, James Gunn first took over and they were wondering what was going to happen to the DC Universe, right, the DC, uh uh, who was, you know, after it took over, who was going to be recast. They're getting rid of Henry Cavill, so the Justice League and everything went with that. So you can't kind of— and then everybody was kind of a bit perplexed because they were like, okay, well, the one— the first Wonder Woman movie did well, the, uh, Aquaman movie The first one I loved, it did well, but combined they did $1.5 billion. So all in all, you could make the argument that they were both successful. Um, you know, so what was gonna happen to Jason Momoa, you know, doing so well? Uh, were they gonna reward him for, you know, doing so well and not punish him, right? And so One thing that had been always, uh, talked about was Jason Momoa would make a great Lobo. But at that time, uh, Jason Momoa had a, uh, he went down and he had talks with Warner Brothers. And as we recall, he was very much, uh, excited about those talks he had with Warner Brothers, although we didn't exactly know what was said, but we did know that Warner Brothers had a future for Jason Momoa. He had done well by them. He made them a lot of money, so they weren't going to kick him to the curve, right? Yet he had done a good job. And so, uh, you know, now we see what it was all about. It was about them finding a role for him, casting him as Lobo, which was the right thing to do. You know, because he did such a great job with Aquaman. Now, I thought Aquaman wasn't the best casting. That, you know, again, that was Zack Snyder casting Jason Momoa as Aquaman, which I, you know, initially I thought was a bad choice. Now it actually turned out Jason Momoa is just, you know, charismatic. He's just good at, you know, you know, whatever you put him in, he's gonna make it work. And that movie still worked, even though, uh, I don't think him as Aquaman would have been the best, you know, was the best casting. Again, that was Zack Snyder's choice. Uh, you know, as I have been saying, and I'm, I'm not anti-Zack Snyder, you know, as I've said repeatedly, uh, I like Zack Snyder movies, just not his— not I just don't like him to be involved with the DC Universe, well, or, or, you know, the Justice League characters, because I like what he did with The Watchmen, right? Some people didn't like what he did with The Watchmen. I love what he does with his horror movies and such. And so him and James Gunn actually has a history where they worked on Dawn of the Dead together. I didn't know that, right? And so they do have a history of working together, right? Uh, I just think Zack's talents are so much better other places, right? And I'm glad they got James Gunn, uh, at the helm because James Gunn's already doing the things, um, that I thought he was going to be able to do a great job of. That's just bringing in all these various, uh, DC characters, right? And, uh, he's already starting off good with Jason Momoa in Lobo, right? So that's all pretty cool stuff. I like, uh the direction of, uh, you know, where they're— where DC's going. You know, I can see— and I'll make a big huge prediction here, um, that I, I would have thought impossible to make a few years ago— but, uh, I can see DC under James Gunn doing better than Marvel going into the future, right? I really do feel Marvel's burning out. And I think that James Gunn is going to introduce elements to DC we've never seen before, right? He's going to, he's going to, he's going to make, he's going to bring that magic he brought to Marvel to DC. And, you know, he has a lot of characters to choose from in his interpretations of them. I think they're going to be fantastic, what he can do with them. Of course, Jason Momoa says if DC were to ask him to play Lobo, it would be an F yeah, along, you know, alongside his Instagram screenshot, right? So I'm happy for Jason Momoa, and you can tell that he's got— he would do a great job. His personality, uh, you know, kind of this bad boy, uh, cool guy image that Jason Momoa, I think, has in real life as well as on the screen, it just speaks to to the Czarnian Lobo, right? You know, and, uh, if you don't know like who Lobo is, he's pretty cool. He got this like space motorcycle or something like that. He's like a bounty hunter, you know. Uh, you know, he's the, he's the main man. He's a bad dude. And, uh, it's gonna be interesting just to see what James Gunn does with this. The thing is, I, I'm I've become now so confident in James Gunn's abilities, right? You know what he does with these characters, um, you know, I can trust that it's gonna be interesting, right? That, uh, it might be different, but it's not gonna be bad. It's not— it's not gonna be a bad thing. So there we go, guys, that Supergirl movie that looks like it's going to come out well before the second Batman film, interesting enough, right? So it looks like they're gonna try to line these movies up like they've done over in the— with the different Marvel phases. And so I'm looking forward to, to seeing what they do here. But I'm gonna leave it at that, guys. Guys, tell me what you all think about Lobo playing— uh, I'm sorry, Jason Momoa playing Lobo. I think it's Perfect casting, right? Better than Aquaman. And so gonna be very great to see that, guys.
