Superman - The Best Cape On Costume!

In this informal vlog, the creator reflects on the various Superman capes seen in live‑action adaptations, questioning why the newest cape (as seen on the upcoming 2025 Superman: Legacy film) feels like the best to him. He walks through a mental comparison of capes worn by Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, Tyler Hoechlin, and David Corenswet, noting differences in style, tailoring, and whether they were practical garments or CGI creations. He highlights specific design elements—such as the cape’s flow, back‑layering, trench‑coat‑like attachments, and material appearance—and argues that a well‑tailored, realistic cape is crucial to Superman’s visual identity. The video also touches on the black “resurrection” suit from the Snyderverse, expressing a personal preference for a darker aesthetic, and ends with a call for viewer opinions while promoting the upcoming Superman: Legacy release and the channel’s future updates.

Welcome back to the channel, guys. I hope you're having a good New Year's Day, and welcome to 2025, the year of Superman Legacy movie due out in July. So I just got to thinking, I know we've had our differences with this Superman suit, right? This version of Superman. And, um, the suit's kind of growing on me, you know. Um, it's growing on me the more I look at it. But, uh, I understand that a lot of people just don't like this suit. And I was saying, it's not the best suit I feel I've seen on Superman. But one thing that might be the best I've seen on Superman that is very important, and that is the cape, right? So am I seeing something with this cape that others aren't seeing? Why, why is this to me looking like— why is this looking like the best Superman cape I've seen, right? How it's styled, how they wear it. Um, what, am I missing something here? I want it to look okay. So this is what Christopher Reeve's cape would have looked like back in the '70s, looks like. And this is the one that Henry Henry Cavill had on in Man of Steel. Um, and I, I think the Brandon Routh one looks more similar to the Christopher Reeves one. I, I'm not even sure if it had the crest on the back. I don't think it did. I, I'm pretty sure it didn't. But, um, um, the, the Henry Cavill cape, it might have been CGI'd on too. You know, but you can kind of see it here. Um, but why does, uh, why am I feeling like— and the suit actually doesn't look too bad here in this picture, but on this mannequin. But why am I, uh, maybe because it's on the mannequin, but, but why does this cape look Why does this cape look like the best version I've seen on, on a Superman before, right? Has the tailor just got it together after the many years? You know, what do you guys think? Is it— is this the best Superman cape you've seen? I don't know why I'm thinking that. I don't know why I'm thinking that this is like the best Superman cape. That I've seen. And capes are important, you know. I would have to say the Superman cape is probably the most important part of the suit, one of the most important parts of the suit, because we know what Superman looks like when he's not wearing a cape right now. Even when, um, You know, in the Snyderverse, when they had, uh, Henry Cavill, you know, in the black suit, like the resurrection suit, he had a black cape on. I, I think the only thing they did was colored the— his, his normal suit black, you know, uh, you know, CGI to black or whatever. I don't I don't even know if that suit was really black because I know in the comics, right, his resurrection suit, you know, Superman doesn't wear a— he doesn't wear a cape with that suit, right? So he's not even wearing a cape with that black suit. But as far, as far as I'm concerned, in The Man of Steel, Superman may as well just wore that black suit from the beginning because, you know, his character was so reminiscent of, uh, of a, a Batman. Like, you know, even the, even the way that Metropolis looked and all that, um, he, he could have just wore that black suit from the beginning and it, it probably would even work better. I probably would have liked it better if he just wore that black suit from the beginning. But the, uh, the David Corenswet— let's see, we get— where's that picture of him with the Uh, where is it again? Okay, here it is. Yeah, I just like how that cape forms around the suit itself. I think on the, on the Superman, Supergirl, and Superman and Lois, right, the Tyler Hoechlin, um You know, Superman from television series, he has some interesting cape attachments, right, that kind of, uh, you know, reminded me of this. But even that wasn't— I, I, I didn't like it, I don't think, as much as, you know. Then he had this kind of weird trench coat thing on the back of his cape, uh, you know, when he was— when he, uh, when he aired on Supergirl, right? That's right before Superman and Lois came out. He had like this kind of strange— maybe I could find it. Hold on, let's see. Yeah, here it is. You guys remember this when he had this kind of— I don't know, it kind of reminded me of the Man of Steel suit a little bit. So I got the materials, the little chain-looking material in it, and then he got this like this gold attachment, but if you look how the cape drops in the back, it's got like a trench coat looking thing. Let me see if I can get a back view of it. Okay, I can't seem to find a back. Okay, this, this is another look of it. He doesn't have trunks on, right? It's kind of that Man of Steel feel a bit. And see how the, the cape drops in the back, but you know This is a different cape. Okay, you can kind of see how it got those layers going in the back of it, right? But even this cape, you know, it doesn't— it still doesn't seem— especially in a live-action Superman, that cape's got a little too much going on, right? Um, It doesn't even look like a cloth material. It almost looked like a— like leather, doesn't it? Like a belt material. So I don't know, but, uh, that definitely— I wouldn't say— I definitely would— this is like the Brandon Roth one. Yeah, and I wouldn't even say the Brandon Roth one was the— was the— was the best. Uh, okay, but anyway, yeah, tell me, you guys tell me what you think about it. Is— is the— the James Gunn suits, at least as far as the cape is concerned. Is it the best cape? Because the capes are very important to Superman as well. But, um, it just came to mind, it just had me thinking, uh, you know, because, you know, a lot of, again, what we saw in Man of Steel with the Henry Cavill suit, uh, a lot of those scenes, I don't think that was an actual real cape. Right, those were CGI capes. Um, and it looks like, uh, it certainly looks like the one that, um, uh, David Corensweth's wearing is, uh, is real, right? But anyway, that's all I want to say in this video, guys. Um, that was all, that was on my mind. Again, I hope you guys are having a great New Year. Um, this is a year of Superman Legacy, and hopefully it'll be all the things we're hoping it can be. Again, guys, don't forget to subscribe for these videos. As new information comes up about the Superman film, we will be certainly sure to talk about it, give you the latest information about it. But again, till next time, as always, take care of yourselves and each other.
