Superman - Tom Cruise To Play Jor-el?

In this YouTube commentary, the host examines recent casting rumors that Tom Cruise (and possibly Chris Pratt) might portray Jor-El in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. Drawing on reports from ComicBook.com and Hollywood insider Jeff Snyder, the speaker outlines several arguments for why Cruise would be a logical and appealing choice. He first situates Jor-El within a legacy of heavyweight actors—Marlon Brando, Russell Crowe—suggesting the role traditionally demands a major star. He then surveys Cruise’s diverse filmography (action, drama, sci‑fi, comedy) to argue that his acting chops and Oscar‑nominated background make him capable of delivering a memorable, concise performance, especially given Cruise’s likely tight schedule. The host also speculates that Cruise’s affiliation with Scientology could make the scientist‑leader role of Jor-El, a “Scientocracy,” personally resonant. By contrast, he critiques Chris Pratt’s suitability, noting Pratt’s Marvel‑centric persona and questioning his ability to deliver the gravitas required for Jor-El’s brief but pivotal speeches. The speaker further argues that casting a star like Cruise would boost audience interest and box‑office draw, aligning with the historical pattern of casting big‑name actors as Superman’s parents. He concludes by inviting viewers to share their thoughts and suggest alternative actors, while urging likes and subscriptions.

Welcome back to the channel. I hope you guys are having a good Friday after— or evening, rather. Um, want to talk about Tom Cruise possibly being cast as Jor-El, right? Some people feel that's utterly ridiculous. As well, Chris Pratt may be in the running, but I want to talk today in this video about some reasons why I think Tom Cruise's Jor-El makes a lot of sense, why he might want to portray Jor-El. And of course, these rumors come from ComicBook.com. They also come from the Hollywood insider Jeff Snyder. Is it going to be true? There's a good possibility it could be. And, uh, as well as the article, I want to address some, um, some reasons I think Tom Cruise would want to do this role, right? So, you know, of course you can start with reasons like Tom Cruise might want to do this role because of the iconic lineage of actors who've portrayed Jor-El. This hasn't been, you know, small-time actors. These have been the heavyweights of Hollywood. Marlon Brando in 1978. As Jor-El, you know, the best Jor-El in my opinion, followed up by Russell Crowe in The Man of Steel. I thought Russell Crowe did an excellent job as well. These are two magnificent actors, right? And so it seems the legacy of Jor-El is to be these very iconic, bigger than life characters, right? Now, Tom Cruise is no different than that, right? We know Tom Cruise to be an action hero, uh, in most of his movies, like the Mission: Impossible movies. We know Tom Cruise to be, um, you know what I mean, um, a, uh, you know, a good in those horror flicks like The Mummy and, uh, what was the other one, um, The Interview with the Vampires, the Anne Rice novels, right? But I would direct you to films like A Few Good Men, The, um, The Firm, right? You know, a lot of these, uh, novels that Tom Cruise did, and, uh, Rain Man. Um, Tom Cruise has done a lot of stuff. Born on the Fourth of July, uh, Academy Award winner Tom Cruise. So this is a serious actor as well with a wide range acting chops, right, besides the action hero stuff. So, uh, that's why it is so much believable that Tom Cruise could want to follow in those footsteps of those great actors. Also, uh, I think the story was Marlon Brando shot— it was like a few days or something— he made millions of dollars. I, I don't think Marlon Brando spent a lot of time on that set, and the, and, and the, uh, uh, he didn't have to, right? You can't punish a person for being good, right? Just because they only have to be there a little while, you know what I mean? Whatever time he was there, he delivered a phenomenal performance. And if you could do that, you could be on the set 30 minutes. But, uh, Marlon Brando, uh, wasn't there long. And I think the reason I would say that could work with some, for someone like Tom Cruise, because because probably with a schedule as busy as Tom Cruise has, he probably wouldn't want to be caught on a set for weeks, right? And so it is probably possible he could do a Jor-El role, specifically if James Gunn doesn't have a lot, a long, you know, filming frame. Now, uh, I could believe he wouldn't because James Gunn, um, is probably highly influenced by the Christopher Reeves Donner films. I believe he did say he was, that that was the Superman of his generation. And if that being the case, then you know what you get then is, uh, you could probably have him not draw out Jor-El's story and, and, and seen so long, right? You know, as to say, um, it might follow up close to those Donner films. Now, as opposed to what we got in this, in the Snyderverse, where Russell Crowe is on Krypton for just way too long in that movie— it almost feels like a science fiction movie, the first part of that movie— probably spent close to about an hour, feels like, on Krypton, right, before you even get to Earth. And, you know, I wasn't a fan of that. I would like to see an independent Krypton film, but that way that was done wasn't it. So I don't think that would happen in the James Gunnverse. And because of that, it might work for an actor like Tom Cruise. Here's the other part. Here's the other thing. And this has got to be a little bit more out there. You know, again, I'm a big fan of Tom Cruise on camera, off screen. Um, the, the other thing is that we know Tom Cruise to be a Scientologist, right? I don't know a whole lot about Scientology. I've heard the horror stories of Scientology. I've heard the good things about Scientology and them using science and methods to save the world, right? What I find interesting about that then is that I did a video some weeks ago called Krypton is a Scientocracy, and a scientocracy basically being a government led by scientists. Jor-El was a leading scientist of Krypton. There was the Scientific Council and these guilds that governed Krypton. Um, and so I could see Tom Cruise, uh, being very attracted to a role like that. Right? I believe he could see similarities in the idea of a Scientocracy in Scientology. This is my opinion, but I could see him be— look at that role and read what Jor-El was, a Scient— part of a Scientocracy, and how they ran Krypton and what Superman means to the Earth. And I could see him being drawn into that. I think a similar thing happened decades ago with the film Battlefield Earth, where John Travolta himself was a Scientologist, and he very much wanted to be in that role, uh, uh, Battlefield Earth, which kind of felt like a tale of the Anunnaki, or, you know, how, uh, life began on Earth and how aliens came to Earth and so on, right? If you've saw the movie, you know what I'm talking about. My point is, I could see Tom Cruise on many, uh, uh, uh, planes, right? Uh, being attracted to this role and in the representative sense of following a lineage of great actors, right? Uh, Oscar-winning actors and Academy Award-nominated actors. Uh, as well as more on a personal level of his philosophies about life, right? I can see all of that being very attractive to Tom Cruise. I also just think it would be an appropriate role for Tom Cruise because here's the thing, um, if we follow the legacy of Jor-El in the movies Jor-El needs to be a very good actor. Now I'm not saying, um, Chris Pratt, because they got Chris Pratt up there. I'm not saying Chris Pratt's a bad actor. I just don't see him as Jor-El though, right? That's not how I really see Chris Pratt, right? Let me get that out of there. I'm trying to get rid of these ads off the comicbook.com article. I don't know why it's not letting me. But anyways, um, you know, uh, that's how I would see that, right? I would— Tom Cruise absolutely, to me, has a very long list of great films he's done. Um, you know, you know, as I mentioned earlier, A Few Good Men, uh, Born on the Fourth of July. Rain Man. Um, he's done it all, right? Tom Cruise has done everything. He's done comedy, he's done drama, he's done science fiction as well. He, he is just the total package, right? Uh, and so I would prefer him as Jor-El. I just don't think Chris Pratt has the same uh, you know, pedigree of, you know, movies and such. But, um, you know, so I don't know why his name keeps coming up in this. Maybe the article kind of shed some light on it. Yeah, um, let's see what he says here. Regarding Chris Pratt, Snyder said, I thought it might be Guns, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt And who knows, it still might be, but a source suggests that Gunn wouldn't do that to Marvel's Kevin Feige, right, seeing as how he likely hasn't seen the last of Star-Lord. Yeah, and Star-Lord just doesn't fit that, right? Yeah, now come on, he, he really— he's, um, he definitely does well over at Marvel. I can see the Gunn connection, right? With Chris Pratt, you know, working together. Maybe Chris Pratt has, uh, certain characteristics we haven't seen, uh, and so Jharrel just has to be able to deliver them. See, Jharrel's not gonna get a whole lot of screen time, but the words that Jharrel speaks, right, they have to be profound, right? Like how he gives that speech in Man of Steel, Russell Crowe does, uh, you know, about them joining you in the sun, right? And all that stuff, just that, you know, very inspirational, you know. Can Chris Pratt do that? I don't know, but I believe Tom Cruise can. After watching A Few Good Men, I believe he can deliver, you know, things. And, and I, I just believe You know, uh, Tom Cruise would be excellent for this, right? I, I can't really think of anybody else who would be— who's a, who's a, who's a good English actor out there right now? Um, who's, uh, who's good in acting? Maybe that guy who, who's from, uh, what's this guy's name? Remember the guy from the, um, the Underworld series who played the werewolf guy? And he also played, I can't think of his name. I think he dated the Silverman, the female comedian, Sarah Silverman, something like that. But you guys know him from the Underworld movies where he plays that, the leading, the leader of the werewolf guys. He's been in the Twilight series as well. He was in Tron as the club owner, right? I can't think of his name, but maybe he could play Jor-El, right? Um, but anyway, that's the news. What do you guys think? Do you think, you know, you— I, I think it would give so much— it'll be such a good direction for this Superman film, you know. Also, uh, you know, the legacy of Superman, even the Jonathan Kits, uh, was it Gerald Ford in the original who played— he was a big, you know, actor from the past. And then you had, of course, Kevin Costner in Man of Steel, right? Now, whoever this guy is, uh, in the James Gunn, you know, film, you know, uh, he kind of doesn't follow that. So, uh, I haven't really seen him in much of anything. But, um, now, uh, so it doesn't necessarily mean that James Gunn has to keep that formula, but that has been the formula in all the Superman films. And that's been big actors to play Pa Kent, Jonathan Kent, big actors to play Jor-El, And I kind of like that formula, right? Um, I guess that's all I want to say on it. That's all the news we got on that, guys. Tell me all what you think about Tom Cruise's Jor-El. I think it sounds excellent. Uh, I think it'll get more people butts in the theaters, and I think people will like that, right? If you get them on board. Um, we, like I said, we've known Did we know Russell Crowe was gonna— yeah, we did know early on Russell Crowe was going to be playing Jor-El, right? But unfortunately, we did not know, or we don't know as of yet, who is going to be playing Jor-El and James Gunn's Superman, right? No idea yet, uh, besides this rumor. What we do know it's very likely, or at least has been, that a huge actor will play Jor-El. But anyway, that's all I want to say in this video, guys. Guys, tell me all what you think about it. And, uh, if you know you don't like Tom Cruise as Jor-El, give me some ideas and names of people who could portray a good Jor-El in this film. All right, guys, take care of yourselves. If you like content like this, Don't forget to like, subscribe to the video, right? Very much appreciate it. Uh, let's get a lot of eyes on it so a lot of people could come out, watch this film. All right, take care.
