Whaleshares.io - MET Token Distribution

In this video, the host introduces the MET token, whose name derives from the Latin phrase "Mort et Tributa" (death and taxes). He explains that MET functions as a community‑backed upvote token on the WhaleShares social platform, similar to the original WhaleShares token on Steemit. The token is designed to improve content distribution by allowing users to gain upvotes through token holdings, thereby incentivizing engagement. The speaker expands on his broader concept of a "dual economy" within blockchain‑based social networks, warning that an unhealthy hierarchy—few wealthy "whales" and a large poor class with a weak middle—can undermine platform health. He argues that MET can help create a more balanced middle class by being accessible to all participants and by encouraging whales to support this group. Additionally, MET is a cross‑chain token, usable for upvoting not only on WhaleShares but also on Steemit and Smoke.io, extending its utility across multiple blockchains. The host invites viewers to join the WhaleShares Discord community, emphasizing that business‑ and economics‑oriented discussions there can improve curation and content quality. He concludes by urging viewers to like, subscribe, and consider joining WhaleShares.

Hey you, welcome back to the channel. And guys, today I want to talk to you a little bit about the MET token. So what is the MET token? Well, MET is seemingly an acronym for Mort et Tributa, which in Latin translates to something roughly like death and taxes. And so it would seem that seems to be a universal constant. And so as in some of my earlier videos, I spoke a little bit about WhaleShares, its similarities to the Steemit social network. And I've come to really like the WhaleShares platform. It reminds me of an early Steem, a more simplistic Steemit. Um, and, uh, I, I like, uh, uh, simple, clean things, and I, and I think WhaleShares kind of, um, encapsulates that. Uh, now what's— what the reason we're talking about this token today, uh, within the WhaleShares community is because, um, if we go back a little bit in history, we go back to Steemit, there was a token called the WhaleShares token. And basically it was this token that you could use, and it was basically backed by the upvotes of the community. So you could use these tokens to gain upvotes to your posts, and thus value was delivered to your posts through the token. And so the MET token seems to be doing a very similar thing on the WellShares social media platform. It's also backed by a community or has a, a community that is part of it. Many of us meet in several places on the Discord channel. I have joined the community. And what I've also found about many of these social media platforms across the blockchain, especially the ones designed to work much like how Steemit works, is community is very important. Right. You know, you— that's what the idea of social media platforms are, right? Your engagement with other individuals, people knowing about the type of content you're delivering and kind of being in these groups in areas where there is a relation and relationship to your content and the people involved. And so that's all very important. To this, as I found using these, especially these very Steemit-like social media sites, these platforms that use these, these, this type of upvoting system. And so the MET token, it's working quite well in that department because what this allows is this allows for a better distribution across the platform. Now, in many of my videos, I have mentioned the concept and ideas of a dual economy, and many people would argue that, well, you know, this is a cryptocurrency, this is a social media site, it's not an economy. It's, you know, not, you know, something that, you know, works under the control of some type of governmental system, but it's whatever the, you know, the community decides it is. And, and, but even though many times we look at it that way, or we may, uh, envision it that way, these things seem to kind of take on a life of their own, don't they? And so what many times we've gotten is this type of manufactured, self-created, uh, economy right? Um, and so it kind of plays out on many of these platforms where you have a type of, um, uh, upper class and you have a middle class and you have a, uh, you know, obviously the people who have very little, right? Lower class or poor or whatever you want to call them, uh, for lack of better words. It, it all kind of plays out this way. And what seems to be this have the same type feel no matter whether you're doing this over a situation like what we're getting on, uh, sites like Steemit and, and WhaleShares, um, you know, or whether you're looking at real life economies. It's— it always seems to be the most unhealthy situation when that middle group, uh, has very little equity, very little value within that community, and you have a small group that control a and you have a large group of poor, but you don't have a large group within the middle. So the creation of systems like this, tokens like this that you can obtain, that anybody can obtain, and through this business community, you know, whether it be some contribution to dealing with cryptocurrency, the state of affairs in cryptocurrency, dealing with the regulatory bodies and the status of what's happening in cryptocurrency, or whether it's something as simple as just an overall contribution to the community like contests and various things. It would seem that the MET token is helping with that distribution and hopefully creating a more healthy wealth share. This is very important, and I can't help stressing enough that people who are whales and people who are in these vastly superior economic positions, that is very important that they really focus on this middle group of individuals to try to have a very balanced economy. What you don't want, in my opinion, is a a large group of whales just kind of inter-trading amongst themselves. Uh, you want to avoid that, that never ends well. And so, uh, ideas like the MET token I think are a good step forward in that direction. We had that play out with whale shares on Steemit. Again, ways to try to create better opportunity for people who use the platform. And this is a, um, a community of people who are business-minded, intellectual-minded, and just anybody who could contribute in some form or fashion to the group. Um, another interesting thing and very important point to make about the MET token is that the MET token is as well a cross-chain token. So what that means is you're going to be able to use this token to get up votes not only on WhaleShares but also on Steemit, also on platforms like Smoke.io. And so again, this token will have value across several blockchains, but it will help the state of affairs in cryptocurrency, help this distribution situation that has always been very problematic for us. You know, I would go so far as to say that the situation in cryptocurrency plays out like a dualistic economy, a dual economy where you just have the wealthy and the poor, and those are things we want to avoid. Um, but anyway guys, I think this is a step forward in the right direction. I, I'm, I'm, I am part of the group over on Discord. I invite you all to come over. I will leave a link in the description. Come on over, join us, especially if you're business-minded, if you're into, uh, economics. If you— I mean, it's for pretty much— we have discussions. As I found on my first day, I think we talked about television series and various things like that. But, um, you know, so I'm sure that, um, there's, you know, something there for everyone to some degree. But, uh, yes, the group focuses on discussion of the state of crypto affairs. And so it's a business-minded group. Um, but, you know, again, I found these things to be very paramount to success on these type platforms. And when you can find certain groups you fit in, I think you're going to not only have more success in these platforms, but there's going to be a, a better situation of curation because curation is going to happen a lot within your specific group. That was a question that I had posed before I joined the group about how curation works and the value of posts and the value, how the platform derives value overall. And, you know, of course, you know, that's kind of a loaded question and it can get a bit technical, you know, and the simplest answer is it just comes down to whatever the community decides the value should be. But I think that as we go forward, and we kind of break off into these various groups, and these various groups were part of curate our content. I think that is going to create a better situation for all, uh, value-wise, as these, uh, groups of people that curate will have a much better handle on what the quality of content is. It won't be so random and various things like that. But guys, that's what I want to say about the MET token. Sounds like a great project to me. I'd like to see, uh, how it works out with the MET token. Uh, guys, if you like content like this, don't forget to like, subscribe. If you haven't joined WealthShares yet, I'll leave a link in the description. Probably a good idea to do that as well. And until then, take care.
