Jamie Dimon’s “Fortress” Strategy: What Nvidia’s $96B Beat Teaches Us About Wealth

In this episode of the One of a Kind Financial Show Daily, host Mike Milligan opens with a rapid recap of Nvidia’s post‑market earnings release, highlighting the company’s $96.22 billion revenue beat, 117 % YoY data‑center growth, 75 % gross margin and an 8.5 % after‑hours stock jump. He situates the results within the broader AI‑capex narrative and points to upcoming macro data (core PCE, Fed inflation gauge) as market catalysts. The segment then shifts to a deep‑dive on JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, tracing his career from a family‑stock‑broker background through American Express, Bank One, and the 2008 crisis, and summarizing the themes of his annual shareholder letters—particularly his “fortress” mindset of planning for worst‑case scenarios while maintaining personal optimism about long‑term U.S. growth. Milligan draws a parallel between Dimon’s institutional pessimism and the “one‑of‑a‑kind” financial plan he advocates for individual investors: higher capital ratios, cash buckets, annuities, and disciplined, scenario‑based planning. He reinforces the message with references to other notable investors (Ray Dalio, Cathie Wood, Dolly Parton) and urges listeners to build personalized plans rather than chase returns. The episode concludes with a call‑to‑action, disclaimer, and contact information for One Oak Financial.

It's the One of a Kind Financial Show Daily. I'm Mike Milligan. Nvidia reported after the bell yesterday, the world's most watched earnings print, the one that decides the AI narrative. It dropped and the numbers were bigger than Wall Street asked for. Today we're going to walk through what they said, how the tape reacted, and then we're going to get to Jamie Dimon, the CEO who spends most of the year telling you what could go wrong. Let's just get right to it today.

Wednesday in the market, the regular session near— was nearly flat with the markets ticking just a hair below. S&P was down 0.02%, Dow down 0.21%, NASDAQ down a hair, Russell 2000 down 0.14%. We were all waiting, all waiting to see what happened at 4 o'clock. When Nvidia read their results. Before we get to that, Bitcoin held steady. 10-year Treasury ticked up just a bit to 4.67%, and gold was down 1.58% yesterday. But here we are after the Nvidia announcement. The regular session close for Nvidia stock price was $209.66. That gives you a little heads up for when it opens today to see what the total growth has been. The revenue that they reported in their report was $96.22 billion versus a consensus of $92 billion and a self-guidance of $91 billion, $5.22 billion more than expected. The adjusted earnings per share was $2.22. Up 13 cents more than consensus. Data center revenue, revenue that generated from data centers was $89 billion. That was up 117% last year. $89 billion of data center revenue versus a total revenue of $96.22 billion. This shows you who's winning the revenue game. when it comes to data centers. And their gross margin was 75%, matching Q1. They gave some guidance for what to expect in Q3. They guided that they would have revenue of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%, versus what analysts expected to be $104 billion. There was zero China data center revenue assumed in that guidance. Here's what happened after the market. They beat on revenue. They beat on earnings per share. They beat on guidance going forward. That's what actually matters. Comes in $4 billion above what Wall Street was looking for for next quarter. Nvidia stock jumped after hours trading up as much as, in after hours trading, up as much as about 8.5%. This is an educational reading, guys. It's not advice, but just to highlight data centers up 170% year over year with 75% margins. That's not a slowdown story, guys. That is the AI CapEx thesis still working. The guide tells us that the hyperscalers, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta, are still writing big checks. to Nvidia. Watch tomorrow's open. Watch what QQQ does. And on Friday, we get the core PCE report and the Fed's preferred inflation gauge. So we had a big AI print Wednesday after the close, the Fed print coming on Friday. This is all happening fast.

Today's guru is Jamie Dimon. The CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the largest and most powerful bank in America. He was born in 1956 in Queens, New York, as the grandson of a Greek immigrant stockbroker, the son of a stockbroker, Harvard MBA, started his career under Sandy Weill at American Express. Dimon spent 15 years as Sandy's right hand. They built Travelers. They merged it into Citigroup. They built Citigroup. In 1998, at the peak of that empire, Sandy fired Jamie Dimon. Dimon wanted the CEO seat. Sandy was not ready to leave. Dimon spent a year unemployed. He got physically in shape. He read. Then in the year 2000, He took over Bank One in Chicago, a smaller troubled bank. He fixed it. In 2004, JP Morgan bought Bank One. In 2005, Dimon was named CEO of JP Morgan Chase. Then 2008 happened. While Bear Stearns, Lehman, Wachovia, and Washington Mutual collapsed, JP Morgan under Dimon Bought Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual at fire sale prices with government backing and came out of the crisis bigger and stronger. He is now worth $2.5 billion and JP Morgan earned a record $58.5 billion in profit last year. Now, here is the interesting part. Dimon writes an annual letter. Every April, Dimon publishes a 50-plus page letter To J.P. Morgan shareholders, most CEO letters read like marketing material. Diamonds reads like a Sunday school warning about the end of the world. In 2022, "Quote brace for a hurricane." No hurricane came. In 2023, stunner: the hurricane had peacefully dissipated. 2024. Warned rates could go to 8% and question the 70 to 80% soft landing consensus in 2025. Considerable turbulence, tariffs, the most perilous geopolitical environment since World War II. 2026, this year's letter, 48 pages. The war in Iran will drive oil and commodity shocks. Inflation will be stickier. Private credit losses. are a little higher than they should be. AI is not a bubble, but will bring unpredictable second and third-tier order effects. Watching for a tipping point. 15 years of these letters. He has warned about another crisis is inevitable going back to 2015. He warned about the deficit. He warned about the mini banking crisis. He warned about inflation. He was often early. He was sometimes wrong, but here's what I want you to hear as a client and a listener to the One of a Kind Financial Show Daily. What his pessimism actually says about CEO thought. Number one, great CEOs plan for the worst case, not the base case. Dimon builds a fortress balance sheet. His phrase, for capital ratios higher than regulatory requirements because he assumes something will go wrong even when nothing is going to go wrong. That's exactly what a one-of-a-kind financial plan does. It plans for the market being down 30%, not up 30%. Number 2, the best CEOs are institutional pessimists, but personally optimistic. Dimon in the letter this year said he believes America's GDP will more than double over the next 20 years. Retirees, listen to that. Long-run optimism plus short-run discipline. That is the retirement portfolio. Pessimism buys you options. When Dimon warned of a hurricane in 2022, JP Morgan pulled back on loan growth. When the mini banking crisis hit in 2023, Hey, remember First Republic, Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank? JP Morgan bought First Republic at a discount. The pessimism is not paralysis, it's preparation. That is why we write plans down. That is why annuities exist as a tool. That is why we build cash buckets, not because we're betting on disaster, because we are prepared for it. Ray Dalio built an all-weather portfolio for macro storms. Cathie Wood bet on the sunny side of disruption. Dolly Parton owned her intellectual property. Jamie Dimon runs the biggest bank in America and spends every April warning shareholders. What could go wrong? That is 4 completely different playbooks so far this week. That is why you build a one-of-a-kind financial plan, not somebody else's plan.

Here's what to watch for. Nvidia's open today. Does that after-hours pop hold or does the tape sell the news? The core PCE comes out 8:30 AM Eastern on Friday, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge. The prior lease was 2.7% headline, 2.9% core. And then your own written plan. Read the section on how you would react if the market fell 20% in the next 12 months. See, the one-of-a-kind financial plan answers, why is money important to me? It creates a vision for your community health and impact. And then each section, each pillar, taxes, retirement income, investments, long-term care, and legacy. Each of those lays out your philosophy. The one-of-a-kind financial plan is a philosophy document for how you, in your unique situation, wants to live a one-of-a-kind life. Jamie Dimon gets it. He writes that letter every year, puts it out there for others to see— shareholders, friends, investors— and then he runs a business that Creates opportunity, opportunity that he can seize for his bank because he has a written plan in place. Estoy aprendiendo. I am learning not only Spanish, but I'm learning how to communicate well to you. You're learning what these market trends, what these market profiles, and what the market means. Come back for that. We'll get the market's reaction, the full day's market reaction to how Nvidia runs up. And if you want to connect, it's always easy. Text the word ideas.
