Welcome to the One of a Kind Financial Show Daily with your host, Mike Milligan. Here we are to wrap up the year 2025. 3 days left. Still time to make financial decisions a reality. Still time to still be one of a kind. Recently on the One of a Kind Financial Show, Gary and I did, uh, uh, 3 segments on music that relates to retirement. And, uh, I'm gonna share with you part 1 today because if you could put your ideal retirement into a playlist, what would it look like? Um, I'm going to discuss the ultimate retirement mixtape with life wisdom from Jimmy Buffett, Chicago, Andy Grammer, even a little bit of Warren Buffett. These lyrics aren't just catchy. They're a soundtrack for finding joy, purpose, and peace in the second act of life. Just remember, retirement— I'm not unemployed. You're just professionally unavailable. You've moved on to bigger and better things. And I hope you enjoy this, how music can become the playlist of your retirement.
I want you to think of this segment as a road trip for soul, just like the open highway, maybe a convertible, and the perfect playlist, whether it's Jimmy Buffett reminding us to slow down or Chicago asking, does anybody really know what time it is? Music has a way of cutting through the noise and speaking directly to what matters. So today we're building a retirement mixtape, a musical guide for what really counts in life after work. Each lyric opens a deeper conversation about how we spend our time, our money, and our energy. And to balance the vibe, we're going to throw in A little Warren Buffett wisdom for good measure. This is one of my favorite Jimmy Buffett songs. There's so many great lyrics in this song. Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes.
It's one of Jimmy Buffett's most quoted lines is, if we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.
True.
And that says it all. Retiring isn't just about geography or finances. It's about a mindset shift. That lightheartedness is key for adjusting to the identity shift retirement brings. Some of the ways that we help clients find the joy in this new latitude of retirement is we call it Retirement Chi, is where you come in and we help you build your vision for retirement. And guys, for some people, it's going to live that Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, right? They want flip-flops, they want sunshine, they want sand. And for others, it's more time with the grandkids. For others, it's purpose. But you have to realize that retirement is something new. It is a change of latitude and it's definitely a change of attitude.
And how about Chicago? Does anybody really know what time it is? Because when you're on retirement, you lose track of those things, don't you?
Yeah. I mean, Tom Hegna famously has said on PBS and other stations that every day is a Saturday in retirement. Oh, yeah. This classic from Chicago, Ask a Question, Retirees Finally Get the Answer. What would you do if time wasn't running you anymore? So without the 9-to-5 job, many people feel lost or actually they feel some guilt about the downtime. And so what we do is we help clients realize that there is a purpose for where you are in retirement. Just because you're retired, it does not mean you're dead.
Yep.
It means that you have new insight and wisdom to pass forward and more time to do the things that light you up every day. Versus doing it for somebody else.

The slots do fill up quickly during the show. 800-748-1838, or text the word ideas to 600-700. This is a great song. Andy Grammer, Good to Be Alive. Hallelujah.
Well, this anthem celebrates gratitude and presence. It's 2 things studies show are critical to a happy retirement. People who regularly practice gratitude in retirement report a 25% higher life satisfaction according to the Journal of Positive Psychology. We talk about financial planning, we talk about this whole idea of budgeting. And one of the things that you should add to your budget is How much joy can you give away? How much joy can you take in? How much can you give away? And you should budget that joy just like you budget for your bills.
Here's a good one. It shows you how fast life can go by. Kenny Chesney, his classic, Don't Blink.
Man, this song is absolutely magical. Like, when you really listen to it and listen to the words, such a great storytelling song. It just reminds us how fast life just moves, a concept many retirees feel deeply once they're no longer distracted by work. The lyric, when your hourglass runs out of sand, you can't flip it over and start again, is poignant. We want to help our clients make the most of those last years, not someday, but every day as they accumulate through the end.
I got a famous Warren Buffett quote. You only have to do a very few things right in life as long as you don't do too many things wrong. I love that one.
I mean, this is interesting. We got the spoken word from Warren Buffett here with all these music songs in here.
Exactly.
Exactly. The Oracle of Omaha's advice is less about chasing perfection and more about avoiding major pitfalls. When it comes to retirement planning, simplicity is so much better than complexity. And if you focus on a few things that'll move the needle, Like having guaranteed lifetime income, having a portfolio you can understand, and a financial plan that gets you to the end of your life without stress and anxiety, you're going to end up with a playlist that's going to bring a lot of fulfillment to the end of your life.
