Manufacturing jobs won't disappear, they'll change. New technologies will require different skills but also lower barriers to entry, letting people without traditional expertise enter the field and helping close the skills gap.
Chapters
On one side of things, there's a fear that the technology is going to take my jobs. And, and that's, again, that's nothing new. What we always say in response to that is, well, it's not— your job's not going to go away, it's going to transform into something else. And I do believe that. So we'll introduce new technologies into manufacturing. And people will have to learn how to work with and make use of those technologies. I also believe that the introduction of technology is going to open up manufacturing jobs to people who may not have had those opportunities before, meaning that we talk about the skills gap, how we need a certain level of skills before people can be productive on the manufacturing floor. Well, technology is going to change that a bit, and it's going to make it easier for people who may not have the skills to get onto the floor and start being productive.
