In this segment, the speaker explains how the transition to software‑as‑a‑service (SaaS) enables companies to outsource the maintenance of their server infrastructure. By moving applications from on‑premise, perpetual‑license setups to the cloud, organizations no longer need internal data centers or dedicated IT staff to manage them. Instead, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) assumes responsibility for server upkeep, which the speaker argues leads to higher overall uptime and fewer instances of unplanned downtime.

First, I'll talk about it from the perspective of software as a service. One of the underlying things that was going on there was essentially outsourcing maintenance. I mean, maintenance of the servers in the data center. So companies had to have their own internal data center to house the on-premise applications, the perpetual license applications. When it goes to the cloud, They don't need those data centers anymore, and they don't need the IT people who maintained that data center. So one aspect of it is outsourcing maintenance and also at the same time achieving higher uptime, less unplanned downtime to the OEM. So the OEM becomes responsible for the maintenance rather than the internal staff.
