A manufacturing engineer realized IT/OT integration requires more than isolated shop floors. He'd relied on firewalls between production and business networks, but moving data to the cloud for analytics means collaborating with IT on secure data transport. The shift is from controlling equipment to thinking about networks and cloud infrastructure.
there's a lot of talk, or has been in the past, especially about IT/OT integration. And I really didn't fully appreciate what that meant. But if you're used to working in OT where you've got a DMZ between the shop floor and then the business network, you need to work together with IT in order to actually be able to securely move that data and have a cloud environment and do the advanced analytics. And that was something that I had not considered before. I've always thought about from, from the control board to the instrument in the field, but not really above and beyond that.
