Episode 57: Special Guest Noah St. John
9 May 2020 · 39 min
Podcast episode (Episode 57) of the Unstoppable Profit Podcast hosted by Mike Stromsoe, featuring guest Noah St. John. The conversation centers on Noah's concept of 'head trash' (self-limiting beliefs), the link between habits and money, and the importance of mastering both the 'inner game' (beliefs, mindset) and 'outer game' (marketing, processes). Noah promotes his new book Get Rid of Your Head Trash About Money (available free at freeheadtrashbook.com), references his earlier book Power Habits, and describes coaching results and anecdotes (e.g., helping a client grow from $4M to $20M).

Well, I'm great, Mike, and thanks for that wonderful introduction. I'm going to take you on the road with me now. That was awesome. So I really appreciate it.
Hey, my pleasure, my pleasure. Hey, Noah, I want to get right to it because after listening and then reading your book Power Habits, which is really what allowed me to get to know you even better, after learning with you at events that we attend together, which is where I really got to know you and learn about the incredible things that you do for entrepreneurs.
I can't wait to share everything that I've learned with the people that learn from our podcast. So, hey, Noah, you've written a new book called Get Rid of youf Head Trash about money that people everywhere are talking about. Why did you write that book and why now?
Well, as you mentioned, Mike, you know, I'm very blessed to have published 15 books and audio programs, you know, that are published in 18 languages. I've been doing this for over 20 years now. I started my company successclinic.com in my college dorm room in 1997, over two decades ago with $800 in a book on how to do HTML. So from those very humble beginnings, you know, we've been able to help people in over 120 countries. Right now, according to Google Analytics, you know, my programs are used and sold in over 120 countries. We have students and clients all around the world. You know, and I get to speak for entrepreneurial conferences, insurance companies, financial companies, network marketing, health companies, and on and on and on. And what I kept hearing over these, you know, many years, Mike, is really this concept that I talk a lot about, which I call head trash. And, you know, I know we'll be talking about that here in this interview, but my point is that people kept coming up to me, you know, whether I'm speaking at a live event or doing virtual programs or training or coaching. And they say, hey, Noah, you know, I want to get results that you get for your clients. You know, I hear you're the guy that people come to after they've gone to all the gurus, and yet they're still not getting the results that they want. I hear you're the guy that people hire after they tried all these Other things, and nothing was working for them. And then after working with you, they started to add six figures, seven figures, even eight figures to their business. So how do you do that? And so that's why I really decided to write this book, Get Rid of youf Head Trash about Money. Because I realized that people really need this, especially right now with everything that's going on today. You know, it's so important that we take this, you know, have the right habits, the right mindset, but really it all comes down to taking action. You know, it's not enough to just think positive. It's not enough to just have the right beliefs, but it really, it comes down to taking actions. But yet all of that starts, you know, with what I call taking out your head trash.
Could not agree more. And one of the things we talk about a lot is, you know, don't think about it too much, don't talk about it too much. Only action. Could not agree more. And the other thing that we try to encourage people is, hey, your mindset is your skill set. So if you're not constantly improving your mindset in every way every day, and being disciplined, you know, in the words of the late great John Wooden, who said, discipline yourself so no one else needs to, then, you know, you might be falling behind. And that's not what we want for anybody. You know, that's a part of Unstoppable Nation. So, hey, Noah, that is great stuff. So when you say that head trash is the number one reason so many people feel stuck and, and we all feel stuck from time to time, I mean, you know, something comes into our world, something goes wrong, somebody that we care and love about, you know, has a circumstance and we have to help them out. So that causes us to maybe be stuck. And so, you know, we all get stuck. So when they get stuck, what is that head trash like? And how does it keep us stuck and what can we do about it?
Yeah, absolutely. Well, you know, I've been teaching this for over two decades. You know, whether I'm speaking at conferences or at my own live events, or with my coaching clients, this is something I've been teaching for many, many years. And really this concept of head trash is something I came up with years ago to really describe why so many people, smart, creative, talented, hard working people, still get stuck, really get in their own way, and in many cases aren't able to get out of their own way. So the way I teach it, Mike, is that head trash is that voice in your head says, I can't do it, because.
And then you just fill in the blank. So, so, for example, people come up to me at my seminars or when I'm speaking at events and they say, hey, no, you know, I want to get those results like you talk about with your clients. You know, like Sheila, who went from $5,000, say, in sales per month to $75,000 in sales a month. You know, like Susan, they went from $60,000 in debt to a six figure income in less than a year. And on and on and on. I want to get results like that. And then, and then I always know what they're going to say next, but I can't do it because.
Right?
And see, they always have an excuse or a reason. And here's what I want all of your listeners to know today. Everyone listening to this program today, whatever you say after the word because is what you will fight to the death. Right? We humans have an almost infinite capacity to make ourselves right. If you don't believe me, put a Democrat and a Republican in the same room and have them watch a political speech and see what happens.
Right?
Right. Or have a Red Sox fan and a Yankees fan watch a New York Yankees Red Sox game and see what happens. Are they watching the same game? Well, yes and no. They are. They're watching the same set of circumstances on the field. When one team does something great, one person will be happy, one will be miserable, and vice versa. So you see, we humans have an infinite capacity to make ourselves right. So when you say to yourself, hey, Noah, look, I want to make more money. I want to grow my business. I want to serve more clients. I want to have more income, more impact, more influence. But I can't do it because I don't have the time. I can't do it because I don't have the money. I can't do it because I don't have the right education. I can't do it because I don't live in the right city. I can't do it because I don't have the right connections because I'm a Martian. I mean, whatever it is, we have these incredible excuses that we always come up with. But you know, there's a quote that I love to share. It came from the author, Will Rogers, and he said, it ain't what a man don't know that gets him in trouble. It's what he knows that ain't so. And think about all the things that we tell ourselves that ain't so. Right? And so this is what I want to share with everybody listening this Program today, everyone listening to the sound of my voice, I want you to really look at what you're telling yourself that ain't so. See if it's keeping you stuck right now. I bet you it is.
Yeah, that. That is great information. Thank you so much. And I wrote that one down. That's going to be one of my many, many takeaways on my soon to be second page of notes. So just to reiterate that, because, you know, as we believe, what gets written down and crossed out gets done, so make sure that you're, you know, writing down copious notes wherever you choose to document. So Noah just said, I can't do it because. But it's what we put after the. Because that changes everything, right, Noah?
That's right. And. And what we will defend to the death. It's so ironic, Mike, that we humans, because we have this incredible need to be right even if it keeps us stuck. You know, it's crazy because it's like most people that you meet, you know, just the average person walking around would rather be. Would rather be right than rich. They'd rather be right than successful. Even when they're saying, I can't do it because I don't have the time. I can't do it because I don't have the money. I can't do because my spouse won't let me, or whatever your excuse is. And you say, but no, you don't understand. I go, you're right, I don't understand. I've only heard that a million times before. You know, it's so insane. But we really, that's why one of the reasons Mike and I know you know this and you know, for everybody listening, is the first step to transformation is awareness. So one of the things that we do, you know, at my live events, when I'm, you know, speaking conferences, or with my private coaching clients, my $50,000 coaching client, we really get to this. You know, a big, big part of this is just getting it to your conscious awareness, you know. Oh, my gosh, I didn't even know I was saying that to myself.
Wonderful. Fantastic. And of course, Henry Ford said, if you think you're wrong or if you think you're right, you are correct.
Well, actually, what he said was, whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. And that's actually another interesting quote. I'm glad you brought that up because I always take that quote whenever I share that quote. What I say to my audiences is this. I say, now that's what Henry Ford said. And with all due respect to Mr. Ford, what I say is this. Whether you believe you can or you believe you can't, you make yourself right. See, because of what I just said, you make yourself right. And one of the examples I was given is from one of my dear friends, Jack Cantill, who, of course, we all know from Chicken Soup for the Soul and the Secret. You know, a lot of great things that he did. You know, Jack Canfield had this idea for a book called Chicken Soup for the Soul, and He was rejected 144 times before he ever got accepted by a little publisher down in Florida called Health Communications International, which just so happened to be the publisher of my first book called Permission to Succeed. So all those years later, Jack Canfield actually introduced me to the Chicken Soup publisher. And as you mentioned earlier, now I'm the only author in history that's been published by Hay House, Harper Collins, Mindvalley, Silence Schuster, nine Galconin, and the Chickens Are for the Soul publisher. So the point is, you know, when for everybody listening, what this means for you is that, you know, if you keep getting rejected time after time after time, that's okay. It's okay. As long as you believe that you will get to your goal, your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Don't give up. Don't ever give up.
Well, you know, I learned at our Be Unstoppable boot camps, we have incredible people come in and share with the audiences there. Rudy Rudiger from the movie Rudy, Rudy came to our Be Unstoppable boot camp. And my number one takeaway from Rudy that year was, and I've got it right here on my monitor, never giving up lasts for the rest of your life.
Right?
That's great.
And that's exactly right. And that comes from getting rid of your head trash. Your head trash would of course, say, well, I can't do it, so why bother? Imagine if Jack Canfield had given up after, you know, the first rejection, the second, the third, the tenth, the 20th, the 50th, 100th, 140th. I mean, imagine getting rejected that many times. Can any of us really say within all honesty that we would have kept going after 143 rejections? So that's. Again, I share that story with people is, you know, the point is, you couldn't have possibly done that if he had believed that he couldn't do it. So for all of us, what does that mean for us and for everyone listening? It means this is where we've got to start. So what many people say about my work, Mike, is that my work starts where Napoleon Hill's work left off. Because Napoleon Hill wrote a book called Think and Grow Rich, and, you know, several other books, of course, but basically it was. He interviewed all these successful people and said, well, how'd you do that? Well, you do this, this, this, and this. Well, how come everybody read that book and they're not successful? Because of what I teach. See, I come in and I teach what highly successful people do unconsciously. And a big, big part of that is getting rid of your head check.
Yeah, that's absolutely true, and that's absolutely clear. So the other thing that we say in our programs is there's wins and there's lessons. You know what we're talking about? Jack. Jack and his team experienced failure, you know, 143 times or 144 times before they got a win. So, you know, there's wins and lessons. And lessons are just teaching points. Right? So that's fantastic stuff. Thank you. Hey, so, Noah, in your book, you talk about three big mistakes that even smart people or experienced people make when it comes to reaching their goals. And by the way, as everybody knows, if you're not, if you don't know your destiny, you know, knowing your destination is all you need to get there. And it starts with goals, which we completely agree with. So what are the three big mistakes, Noah? What are they and how can we avoid them?
Yeah, absolutely. And as you mentioned, I do go into great depth in these. @freeheadtrashbook.com all your listeners can get this book for free. Thank you, headtrack book.com so, but, you know, the. The first, you know, money mistake I talk about is really not getting rid of your head trash about money. I mean, just exactly that. Not. As I said a moment ago, the first step of transformation is awareness. And see, one of the things that I talk about all the time at, you know, my team of speeches or my live event is I say, we don't need more information. What we need is transformation. We're not looking for more information. We live in the information overload age. So what we want is transformation. Well, the first step of transformation is awareness. So if you're not even aware that you have head trash, how could you possibly take it out, right? So that's a big, big mistake that millions of people are making without even realizing. See, so that's. That's really the first mistake is just not getting rid of it, not even being aware of it. Now the second mistake I talk about is really getting too much information without giving yourself permission to succeed. Meaning that many people, most, well, millions of people, let's just put it that way, millions of people, hard working entrepreneurs, you know, smart, creative, talented, mission driven people, are really holding themselves back from the level of success they're capable of. And meanwhile, they're gathering all this information, information, information. They're literally on information overload. And so one of the things that I talk about is we don't need more information. What we need is transformation. And that simply means just doing one thing at a time and not succumbing to all the incident distractions that are out there. Now, that's easier said than done, but that's one of the things we work on all the time, you know, with our coaching clients and our live events, is just being able to focus. That's one of the reasons people ask me all the time, how do you write 15 books? I say by writing them that hard, you just got to write the stupid thing. And, you know, instead of doing on social media, you know, 24 7. So, I mean, it's funny, but it's true, right? And then the third big mistake I see people making, and this is a really big mistake, not getting the right support, not finding the right coach or mentor. See, and that's why everybody listening to this program is so smart, because, you know, they're working with you. Mike, who is such a great mentor, such a great coach and teacher, and they've got a great leader in you. And, you know, so I applaud everyone listening to this program because they're following you, which is very smart for these people. And so, you know, it's very important that you find the right mentor, the right coach, the right support system so that you can reach your goals faster, easier, and with less human effort. And one of the things I just want to share really quickly is that that is actually really hard nowadays because there, you know, you can't turn on social media without seeing, you know, all these fake gurus out there. And you don't know who's fake, right? Because they're standing in front of a sports car and, you know, flashing all their shiny eyes and go, hey man, look out. Look how cool I am. And you're like, oh, all right, well, I want nice stuff, right? I want a nice sports car and all this. So, okay, you know, and listen, I mean, I just want to share with everybody that, you know, I spent over a quarter million dollars on all these guys. I paid every guru out There only to find out they can't teach their way out of a paperback. So you got to really be very careful about who you invest your time, money, and effort with. And that really comes down to someone who has not just gotten results for themselves, but far more importantly, has gotten results for other people. That's why, you know, I'll just say again that everybody listening to this program following you, Mike, is very, very smart because you've gotten results not just for yourself, even though you've gotten great results for yourself and your own business. But I think it's more important that you've helped so many other people get results in their lives and in their businesses.
Well, thank you so much for your kind words. It's an honor and a privilege just to help people and to just pay it forward with what we've learned. You know, we like to say we've been there, done that. We're still doing it. And we are still doing it because we're always trying to answer the question, you know, why should somebody follow you over and above and in all other options available to them? Because we've been there, done that, and we're still doing it. We've got real world information from the trenches. It's current, just like you have. You know, you're out there speaking, you know, coaching and helping people all of the time. So you are also in the trenches helping people get unstuck and get their mind right. So that's one of the main reasons I'm so honored to get to know you better and continue to learn with you. Thank you so much. And just a friendly reminder, you mentioned focused. And I may not have shown you this visual, and I'll have to show it maybe in a video with you, but, you know, if you put your hand out, follow one course until success every day. That's our definition of focused. So you got to stay focused. So, you know, or you can just be a squirrel and chase everything shiny that's around you, Right? The old SOS syndrome.
That's right. That's right.
Yeah.
Yeah, we don't want that. No.
No, we don't. So. Hey, Noah, you talk about the hidden connection between habits and money. So what is that hidden connection? And why is it so vitally important.
In any human endeavor, anything we're trying to do in our. In our lives and our businesses, you know, as entrepreneurs, as independent business owners, you know, we. We have goals, right? As we talked about goals a minute ago, Right? So we want to grow our business. We want to serve more clients, get More customers. But you know, in our personal lives, we, we want to maybe, you know, lose weight or just have more peace of mind, be happier, go on a vacation or whatever your goal or your destination might be. So whenever we're talking about goals or destinations, there's always two parts of that, two elements. There's the inner component and the outer component. Now at my company, success clinic.com, you know, with our coaching, with our live events, my speaking, I just simply call it inner game and outer gain just to keep it simple, right? So inner game is everything that happens between your ears that you can't see directly, but you see the effects of it everywhere. So for example, when I'm speaking at a conference or, you know, one of my live events, I often say to my audience members, what's one area of your life where your beliefs don't affect you? And people will go.
And I'll go. Exactly. There's no place your beliefs don't affect you, right? I mean, your beliefs affect your health, your, your finances, your business, your social life, your family life, your friends, you know, your intimate relationship. And everywhere there's literally no place where your beliefs don't affect you. However, you can't see a belief. You can only see the effects of a belief. Not only that, but, you know, you could be doing really well in one area of your life and maybe in another area you're stuck or struggling, for example, maybe your business is going really well, but your health is suffering, maybe your relationships are going great, but maybe, you know, your money isn't where you want it to be and so on. So the point is it's not cookie cutter. One size fits all. We really have to look at it individually for each person, each company, each team, right? So that's your inner game. But then we also have the outer game, right? The outer game is everything you can see directly, right? That's all of the, we would call it like the marketing part, right? The digital marketing. Your sales funnels, your lead magnets, your web pages, all your copy and so forth. You know, all the blocking and tackling that we have to do as entrepreneurs, as independent business owners, you know, the customer facing, market facing things you absolutely have to do to keep the lights on and pay the bills, right? So that's inner game and outer game. And so the hidden connection that many people don't understand is it's only when you master your inner game and your outer game that you have the phenomenon called success. Let me give you a quick example of that. I was speaking At a conference in Los Angeles for about a thousand independent business owners. And I was just walking off the stage. I just finished speaking, and a man came up to me out of the audience, and he said, no, uncle, I want to hire you as my coach. You are the coach I've been looking for. Now, I didn't know this man from Adam. Ironically, his name was Adam. Okay? I said, well, what's going on? He goes, well, no, I'm totally stuck only making 4 million a year. Now, of course, I had to laugh. I'm like, that doesn't sound like a problem. You know, to be stuck at 4 million a year doesn't sound like a problem. And I said that to him. He goes, well, no, no, no. You don't understand. You know, I'm an independent business owner. I own my own company. But we got the 4 million in revenues really fast, like, almost overnight. And I didn't really know how we got there. And then we've been stuck at 4 million for the last four years. And for the last four years, I've hired every guru. I've gone to every seminar. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars. He named all the gurus that, you know, paid all this money to. And he said, but we're still stuck. We are plateaued. And we haven't moved for four years. I mean, we haven't grown for four years. And. And he said to me, as soon as I heard you speak about head trash and inner game and outer game, everything you just said, he said, I knew you were the coach I've been looking for. So he hired me on the spot. Long story short, I coached him for, you know, worked with him for about a year, 18 months. In that year, like, his company went from being stuck at 4 million for the previous four years to over $20 million in sales in less than one year. Now. How did I do that? Well, I have a magic wand. And I know I don't have.
Done exactly what I'm sharing with your listeners right now, which is inner game and outer game. But ironically, it was basically 80, 90% inner game. You know, this is what a lot of people don't believe is that they say, oh, I just need more marketing. You know, I need more traffic. And I mean, okay, yeah, well, we all need traffic. We all need marketing. I get that. But the point is that that's not good enough. You see what I mean? And that's what happened with. With this man, with this client. And the irony is, you know, we've helped our coaching clients add over $2.7 billion in sales. You know, collectively, you know, and when you add everything up, that's over $2.7 billion over the last 20 years. And what that means is we've helped people at six figures, multiple six figures, seven and even eight figures for their business. And 80% of that, ironically and counterintuitively, is when I help them master their inner game. And so that's what I want all your listeners to realize today, is you can't just do one or the other. You really need both.
Absolutely. And we talk about the three P's in our programs, People, process, and promotion in that order. And it starts with the people, whether it be the excellent people on your team or more importantly, yourself. And that inner game and outer game could not be more spot on. And it starts with the inner game. You know, I. In my notes, I just wrote down, you can't see a belief, only the effects of a belief. Why does the marketing and all that kind of stuff work? Because the inner game is right. That's freaking gold, man. Thank you so much. And, you know, and then the outer game becomes the stuff that we can see. So. Wow.
Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you out there. I'm just. Yeah, no, no, no.
And, you know, if you're sitting in a place where you can write that down, please pause and make sure you got that one written down. If you're driving re. Listen to this after you get to a place where you can write that down, because that's gold. And the result. The result of that is mastery. And it's when you get to that mastery that you can take those. Those steps, like from 5 to 4 to 20 million and way to change that guy's life. Good job, man. Way to go.
Yeah. Yeah. And that's what I love about you. You're just out there to change people's lives personally and professionally. And I love that, too. So. So, Noah, what makes your program different from all the other business growth programs out there? And you know, you said that you invested, you invested, you invested, and until you figured it out. And same with the gentleman that you're talking about that ran up to you after you spoke that was stuck at 4 million. You helped him figure it out. And I truly believe when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. I had that happen at our boot camp last year. In fact, somebody ran up to me and joined our coaching program and told me, just stood me, looked right in the eye and said, where have you been all these years? I said, what Are you talking about? She said Said, I've been looking for somebody like you to coach with and just, I'm kind of bummed out it took me so long to find you, but I'm so glad I found you. And it's, it's just amazing because the timing is right. Would you agree?
Absolutely. And I've had that said to me many times. Where have you been all my life? And you know, it's such a compliment, you know, and, but it also for me, you know, it spurs me to keep taking action because I know there's so many more people that I really want to help and that are looking for me. And you know, just like everybody listen to this programming. Your, your people are looking for you. That's one way to keep moving, keep taking action, keep moving forward, you know. But, but your question, Mike, was, you know, what makes my programs different from all the other, you know, business and personal growth programs out there? And, and I think the answer, and this might sound a little strange, but it's because I'm such a nerd.
What I mean by that is, you know, there's a lot of, you know, like I just said earlier, fake gurus out there and you know, I paid them all this money because I was seduced by all those images too. And I'm like, oh, okay, you know, paid them all this money only to find out they can't ease their way out of a paper bag and they truly suck at teaching and. But they're great self promoters, you know, they're just great self margin self promoters. Look at me. Look at me. And you know, again, there's nothing wrong with that. We all need to have attention and all need to have, you know, building our audience and so on, build our tribe. And there's all those, you know, tons of programs out there about that. But what I realized is that, you know, for those guys out there, there that's kind of it. But like, they're great software owners and like, there's no there there. You know, once you actually buy the thing, it's like, what are we doing here is a bunch of air, you know, and that really aggravates something like me who like step by step, I love checklists. I'm like, if you just tell me what to do, I'll do it. And that's what I, that's the kind of people that I attract, you know, that's the kind of clients that I get, you know, who hire me. That's the kind of people come to my events or you know, and the events that I speak at too, people just want, what do you want me to do? You know, just give me the checklist. And that's what I was dying for. That's what I paid all that money only to not yet. So that's what's so aggravating, you know, about those guys because they, they're just naturally good at it. And I'm not naturally good at, you know, self promotion. I am very good at getting down to the molecular level, you know, like by the millimeter and going, all right, here's what you do first. Because that's what I wish I had. You know, when I started my company in 1997 in my college dorm room, I had $800 to my name and a book on how to do HTML, you know, but all I had really was, was a vision. I had a dream, really. And it was just a deep burning desire to help people, to make a difference. And I know everybody listening, this program has that same kind of desire, that same wanting to help people and make a difference, have an impact, you know, and of course make a good living, you know, and take care of your family and go on vacation, do all the fun stuff that, you know, we want our business to give us. So I think that's really what makes it different is because I'm such a nerd. I'm basically the nerdiest nerd in the industry because, you know, people come to me and they say, you know, exactly like what you were just sharing. And they say, hey, where have you been my whole life? I had one gentleman actually who came to one of my events, he said, no, I've been studying personal development and business for 40 years. He says, I have a PhD in psychology. And he says, I've studied all this stuff and gone all those. He said, you taught me more in one weekend than I've learned in the last 40 years. And he said, I've done a million, I just did a million dollar deal here at this event. So he did a million dollar deal at my event and he's gone on now to do multi billion dollar deals in real estate. And I'm like, you know, that's a pretty good roi. You know.
I think that's really what it comes down to is just having the checklist, having the step by step so you don't have to guess anymore. And really getting out of that information overload that I was talking about earlier.
Yep, yep, all gold. Just fantastic stuff. And you know, I love the beginning of. I read your other book, Power Habits. And you talked about, you know, who. Who are you and why are you different? So you're a nerdy nerd. And, you know, after you started your business, from virtually nothing out of a dorm room, you reach success. And then I remember you're talking about in the book Power Habits, the New Science for Making Success Automatic, which is on Amazon as well, after you get Noah's free book, which we're going to remind you about in just a minute, you're talking about a time when you were trying to get unstuck and ziplining, right?
Yes.
And, you know, how did that happen for you? You use what you teach, right?
Absolutely. And so I love sharing that zipline story. I often share that at my live events or when I'm doing keynote speeches. But very just briefly, you know, when I was getting married, about the, you know, when I met my beautiful wife, we were planning our honeymoon, and I'm the nerd. You know, my idea of excitement is curling up with a good book. You know, she's like a total adventure junkie. She likes climbing trees and doing crazy things, right? So, of course, we get along great, right?
So she.
I said, honey, you know, when we were going on our honeymoon, we can do whatever you want, you know, shoot the works. I'm like, you know, of course she's my bride and I want to make her feel special. So she says, hey, I want to go ziplining. And I'm like, oh, shoot, how do I get out of this? Because that was like, on my never do list. Not want to do. On my never want to do it. But anyway, so we get to the car. We, you know, I paid cash for our Caribbean honeymoon. We got to the Caribbean island, St. Kitts, which is a beautiful island, but I couldn't enjoy because I was so nervous about the ziplining thing, right? I'm like, oh, my God, how did I get rubbed into this? So, long story short, they, you know, gave us all this training and big, big guys. And, you know, they drove us, put us in this truck, drove this dirt road, like, two and a half miles up this mountain in the Caribbean rainforest. I'm getting more and more nervous and scared. And, you know, one guy gets on the zip line and he, you know, goes like, out into infinity, right? Like, I can't even see him. He's gone. And I. And then one of the guys who was left, he said, okay, your next look, you know, pointing to me, and I'm like, oh, my gosh, I'm freaking out, and I'm so nervous. And Scared. So I heard in my head, like, I'm not kidding you, I heard literally in my head, we are now going to die.
I remember very succinctly. And I'm like, oh, boy, we are going to die. And then I realized that, really, in that moment, I had three choices that I could make. And the first choice was I could say, I'm not doing. I'm too scared. I'm just going back. You know, I can't do it. I can't go forward, so I'm going back. But then I realized, well, the truck had already left, and I couldn't walk down two miles on the Caribbean rainforest. I could get eaten by crocodiles. I mean, who the heck? No. So that's out. I can't go back, right? And then, of course, I said, well, I could just stay here. I could say, well, I'm too scared. I'm not moving forward. And then I realized, well, of course that's not an option, right? Because they can't just leave me at the top of a mountain, so that can't just stay there. So I said, well, wait a minute now. Wait a minute. The guy ahead of me didn't die, so maybe I won't die, right? Because they've done this thousands of times before. They showed us pictures and videos of grandmas and little kids doing this. And I'm like, are you really going to wimp out like this, Noah, in front of your new bride? So, of course, I took that step of faith, and I had a great time. And now the punchline is, I lead ziplining adventures now with my coaching clients, which is so funny. But the point of the story, Mike, is that very simply, this. And for everyone listening, here's what this means for you. It's very simple that, you know, in life, we really always have those three choices, don't we? We. We also don't, because, you know, can you really go back to the way things were? Well, no, you can't. Of course, the best. The path is gone. It's gone forever. Unfortunately. You know, maybe many people think of the good old days, well, that's great. But they're gone, so you can't go back. Number two, can you stay where you are? No, you can't do that either, right? Because life is moving, right? It's constantly moving forward. In the game of life, Father Time is undefeated. And so the only choice we have is to, of course, go forward. So there are only two ways to go forward. Through fear or with faith. And so, of course, the choice that I Made to go with faith. But what I do want to say to everybody listening is you don't. What you don't want is blind faith. What you want is an educated decision. And that goes back to what I was saying a moment ago about finding the right mentor, finding the right coach. You want to do your homework. You don't want to just necessarily trust the first thing. But if you do your homework, do your research, that's why, you know, when you work with great people like Mike Stromso you're listening to right now, I mean, you're very smart because he's got the. He's got the chops, he's got the knowledge, he's got the experience. And he can just show you all the, you know, case studies that you have. Same with what we do, you know, we've got. I'd rather brag about my students than myself. And that's the kind of people you want to look for, in my opinion. You want to look for the people that have the track record. And that's what that story means to me, is that, you know, we think we can go back, but we can't. We can't even say where we are. The only choice we have is to move forward. And let's move forward with faith.
Regardless of our past, we got a spotless future. Move forward with faith and then not blind faith. I just wrote that one down as well. Another nugget. So, Noah, as we begin to wrap this up today, let's remind people how they can get your new book application free.
