Things You Must Do After A Psychedelic Session

After a psychedelic session with MDMA or psilocybin, you have roughly 2.5 weeks of heightened neuroplasticity to anchor new patterns. Journal with specific prompts, practice daily breathwork and meditation, take nature walks, and avoid stressed people and triggering environments during this window.

How's it going to feel to be connected to love, to be connected to joy? What would it look like for me to show up in this new, more magnetic, powerful way? How do I re-pattern myself when I get off track again? Right? Because you're going to get off track occasionally. But how do I get back on track faster? After a psychedelic guided session, you have this beautiful period which is called a critical period reopening, where you have 2.5 weeks to integrate, where your nervous system is more open to new changes, to new ideas, to new patterns, to anchoring in these new beliefs or values or lifestyle patterns that will help shift you into deeper levels of joy and connection. So you want to maximize that window. Okay? And I'm going to break down the different medicines and how to use the integration session afterwards, the 5 or 6 major things you want to do after a psychedelic session and the things you want to avoid as well. So without further ado, let's dive in and let's maximize the weeks after a psychedelic session. All right. So after you do a psychedelic guided session, and I'm going to reference primarily MDMA and psilocybin because those are more common. More research and more studied in general. Ketamine's very well researched as well. And ketamine's arguably more available because it's legal in most states across the country, but it has a much shorter acute subjective window of like 30 minutes to 2 hours. And the critical period reopening, which is where this heightened neuroplasticity is, is only about 2 days versus psilocybin and MDMA. You have this acute subjective experience, which is from their Nardot study from August 2023. Of 3 to 6 hours with psilocybin and MDMA. And then with the critical period reopening, it's up to 2.5 weeks. So, 2.5 weeks where your nervous system is basically open to the equivalent of like a 2.5-year-old, right? Where your body and your mind can change faster, your new social patterns can change faster. Now, I will put a disclaimer that the measurements for the critical period reopening was primarily done on rats. And now, rats' life cycle in terms of psychedelics is pretty similar to us as humans from what we know. Obviously, there's more to unpack, so much more research to be done, but in the early stages of research, those are some of the indications. Okay? So, without further ado, let me break down the major, major things. The first thing you want to do arguably is journaling. And this is deep, thoughtful, reflective journaling where you're fully present. And why do you want to journal? You want to prompt yourself with different thoughts, with different beliefs, with different patterns that will anchor in this new state. And ideally, you've gone from a state of anxiety or stress or fear or some traumas running in the background or robbing you of joy to more bliss, to more joy, to more love, to more self-acceptance, to more surrender, to more peace. Okay. So how do you anchor that in? You want to reflect and ask questions, like 5 or 6 questions, and have deep focus journaling time, ideally with a little nonvocal music. And do questions like, hey, what am I letting go of in the future? How's it going to feel to be this new version of me? How's it going to feel to be connected to love, to be connected to joy? What would it look like for me to show up in this new, more magnetic, powerful way How do I re-pattern myself when I get off track again? Right? Because you're going to get off track occasionally, but how do I get back on track faster? What music do I want to listen to, to anchor in this new state? Also Journey, the music that I typically guide my clients through. It's a great unconscious trigger to listen to that music again while you're in this integration period, because it's, it's going to anchor that in and send you back to this beautiful state. Unconsciously. Okay? So journaling is really, really effective. Highly recommend that. Do it in a very focused time. Put your phone down. No dings, no distractions, or minimize the distractions and get locked in and do multiple sessions over those 2.5 weeks. Say 3 or 4 sessions would be ideal. Create your own questions, have fun with it, and reflect. Second thing, breathwork. Now, with breathwork, meditation, some of these other activities I'm going to encourage you to do, you want to think of your 3 major zones, and we'll pop up the graphic here. So, you got your comfort zone. Comfort zone is where your couch potato zone. You're not going to be stretched at all. It's just where you're going to be comfortable. Okay? Sometimes we need comfort. That's okay. The, the next piece though is your discomfort zone. That's typically 10 to 20% beyond your comfort zone. All right? So we're stretching a little bit. but not so much that you enter to the third zone, which is the paralysis zone where you start shutting down. It's too much anxiety, too difficult, too challenging. So your discomfort zone is where the magic happens. And then again, it's just 10 to 20% beyond your comfort zone in most cases, which activates flow state. We won't talk about flow state much in this video, but flow state is a really, really powerful state of mind to be in, arguably the most powerful state of mind. We won't cover it here. I'll have that in another video. But flow state is where you're 500% more productive. You also experience higher levels of joy and peace and satisfaction. I'll have a process here outlined in one of the videos of how to reverse engineer a flow state in essentially 30 minutes or less. Okay. But this journaling and then breathwork. So in breathwork, what you want to do is like 5 to, I'd say start with 5 minutes if you're not used to doing much breathwork. And this, this 4-4-4-4 breath method is really good. I love that. But it's just, it's basically breathwork. You can calm your nervous system back down from any state. All right. So I've got a few different videos there and links for different forms of breathwork down below. But breathwork is going to really calm you. I also advise you to do like heart, the heart coherence exercise. So check out that video too, because that calms you back down and puts your presence back in your heart. So I would say that's the third thing is do the heart coherence exercise. Literally can take you 2 minutes. 2 minutes, get back in your heart, more present, more connected, more aware. And then you can lead your life from heart connection. Okay. Then the fourth thing, meditation. So Joe Dispenza has some great ones. I have some good ones here. Exclaim Your Power meditation, some others, timeline meditation that you might enjoy. But in the meditation, you're bringing yourself back into the state of focus, calmed, centeredness. Which again, regulates your nervous system back down into a great state. But meditations are really, really powerful over time to help your nervous system go back into this blissful connected state. All right. And it's found to increase your neuroplasticity over time as well. So, and also shifts you out of that amygdala back into your prefrontal cortex, which is your rational mind. When you're in your amygdala, is leading the way, you're in your fight or flight or freeze mode, which means you are not rationally deciding. So if you're making decisions from a fight, flight, or freeze mode, not a great state to be in. As you shift out of that fight or flight into this calm center state through meditation, through breathwork, through journaling, through heart coherence exercises, now you start to have access to more parts of your capacity, of your decision-making, of your brain. And then that brings me to the 5th thing which I would encourage you to do is do calm, peaceful exercises like walks in the park, hikes in nature without technology, meaning you put your phone down, you're not listening to your music on AirPods or a podcast, you're just present and walking and hearing the sounds of nature. And then the other thing I would do is look at, um, for this walks in nature, do some other things like yoga, not the super straining yoga, but more calming breathwork yoga, stretching, this center you back down into a calm, centered state. So then you can activate flow state as well more. And then the last thing that I would do is avoid or minimize, especially the 2 days afterwards, but ideally the next 2 and a half weeks, minimize the toxic exposure to highly stressed people. Um, because that is a contagious emotion, like, uh, stress and anxiety, or anxiety is one of the most contagious emotions in our bodies. So you put yourself around highly anxious people, guess what? You're going to get that anxiety too. It's just going to unconsciously adapt or be absorbed by you. But minimize people that are going to trigger you or environments that are going to trigger you or highly stressful situations. So, you know, if you have the luxury of having a day in between, like the day after the session, don't jump right back into work, right? Stay. If you traveled in or I traveled to you, stay an extra day and relax and center in. And get connected with you and enjoy this beautiful opening and this relaxed state so you can anchor it in and solidify it even further, which will allow the integration and the deep work we've done to go so much further. Hope you enjoy that. Share this with someone else that needs to know and check out the integration guide down below. See ya.
