Big Pharma does a lot of good. They are in the business of making money. They are profit-driven enterprises, and they want us to use more drugs. They're always looking for new purposes and new uses of drugs. But then when a breakthrough drug or breakthrough technology comes along that doesn't have a patent— for example, MDMA has been around for a long, long time, so they can't get an exclusive patent on it— they're looking at their coffers being drained until they figure out some pathways for basically approval where they get to create a drug patent to protect their profit motive. That's my hypothesis.
