A first-person account of an unprepared interview that unexpectedly produced a murder confession. The speaker describes entering the conversation without notes or planned questions, engaging in banter for about eight to nine minutes, and eliciting a confession after repeatedly asking about what happened to the interviewee’s parents.
There was no preparation because it all unfolded so quickly. And I think I've told you before that I think that's what made the interview successful is that there was no preparation. I went in with no notes, with no preconceived questions. I just started talking to him and listening to him, and he clearly did not want to talk about what happened back then. Anytime I tried to get to that, he backed away. And, you know, we. We just bantered back and forth, and it took about eight or nine minutes. And then after asking questions repeatedly about what happened to his parents is when he told me that he killed them.
