Molly McPherson discusses leaked Telegram group messages from young Republican leaders containing racist and violent jokes (references to gas chambers, slavery, and rape). She plans to review the article excerpts and a notably poor apology, and compares this Republican leak to a similar Democratic incident in a high-profile race, framing both as PR crises.

Leaked messages expose young Republicans racist chats. I've had thousands of private messages reveal young GOP leaders joking about gas chambers, slavery and rape. Yesterday I recorded next week's podcast episode about this because I don't have my oh, I have my water. There is so much happening with this. It's more than just the story about a leaked text. A lot of le. A leaked group text on Telegram. Does anyone use Telegram? Does anyone use it? I was in it when I wrote for Forbes, when I was a Forbes contributor. All the editors, they were on Telegram. And I may have been on Telegram for another chat. I gotta be honest, I just never got into it. It was always a pain for me to use it. But it is one of those, you know, community type chats. You know, definitely. Like just certain communities will go in there. So let's look first of all at the article. Even if you haven't read it. Let's some of the things that were said in there. But I also want to highlight the the responses because one of these apologies is so bad. It's such a throwback apology from 2000 circa 2017. It is so bad and it says so much about this person. So we'll read into that. And then I also want to talk about something that's similar. This is a Republican story. A Democrat is dealing with the same issue and it is in one of the hottest races now that I think in terms of media. And this is like a really bad leak about a candidate who I think turned it, who turned it right away.
