Mona Sharma discusses sauna therapy for longevity, explaining how heat shock proteins and improved vascular function support aging well. The conversation challenges the idea that aging requires quick fixes, focusing instead on sustainable practices that work with your body.
Everything that's emerging with sauna therapy. What is it about heat that's so great for longevity?
There's two things. One, it induces heat shock proteins. And these heat shock help proteins fold. It also stimulates an anti inflammatory pathway. These two mechanisms from the heat shock proteins really help prevent protein aggregates within the brain. The other thing sauna does is it gets your blood pumping. And so it's kind of like an exercise memetic, although it doesn't replace exercise, but it really help your vascular function by pushing your blood flow to the degree that it needs to be in order to cool your body down as it's getting so hot.
If you were to throw it out there as a protocol for longevity, two times a week, three times a week, four times a week.
So every time you do it, you have an increase in benefit. And the best is four to five times a week.
