Aly Cohen explains why the US doesn't regulate chemicals in consumer products the way other countries do, and why USDA organic certification matters for protecting vulnerable populations from exposure.
Chapters
We don't have regulations on the chemicals that go into products in the United States in general. We really do not have protective measures, regulatory measures, oversight required, testing for toxicity, especially in vulnerable populations like pregnant women, young children, teens, and going right into menopause and women of older age, where hormones are actually moving around and being, you know, created and broken down. So we have a problem where the system is letting them in and they're getting into our bodies. But we also have means of choosing better, and that's how we can utilize the USDA organic certification if we choose to. And that has changed dramatically in terms of food availability and cost.
