Dr. Zach Bush talks with Mona Sharma about how disconnection from nature makes us sick and stuck. He connects our health problems to the health of the soil and the planet, arguing that healing one means healing the other.

And if we are that disconnected from nature, and you talk about this ecosystem within us, as I understand that is connected to the ecosystem around us, we're completely disconnected.
Isolation is described down at the physics level. So even before you have a biologic cell, it happens down at the atomic level of a single atom. And it's the second law of thermodynamics. It says any system left in isolation increases its chaos. And so I think that's a good description of where we're at as a human species, but also as a planet, as we have fundamentally disrupted the communication networks that built complex commun at the cellular level and at the social levels. And with that disruption of communication comes isolation. With isolation comes chaos. And so we are seeing an increase in chaos in our children's mental health, in our economic policies and stability globally. I would say every human knew this up until very recently, the last century, really. And so only in the last hundred years did we lose track of that reality.
