Mona Sharma argues that genetics load the gun, but lifestyle and environment pull the trigger. Workplaces that feel relaxed and optimistic directly shape employee habits and energy. The conversation explores concrete practices organizations can adopt to shift from neutral or negative environments to positive ones.
We know that our genes load the gun but lifestyle and your environment actually pull the trigger.
That's right.
And so companies now seeing just by showing up into a workspace that feels more relaxing, more inviting where the tone is set with optimism, happiness, peace or calm, it's actually driving the habits of people that work there. What does it look like in practice to get from here to there?
You have to start with the vision and then you have to create kind of the strategic pillars that align to that vision. We have to start accepting that and giving people freedom. I tell all the people that have worked for me for years I'm big on the midday walk, right? Or if we're going to do a one on one let's walk together and talk and not just sit across the desk. Those kinds of things I think are really helpful. And like I said, my best thinking usually isn't sitting at my desk.
