Growing up, my mom suffered from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease. I've only ever known my mom to suffer. Her joints, her hands, and her feet have always been deformed. And because she saw her mom suffer in the same way, she ultimately passed at a very young age. My mom didn't want to go down the same route, and she knew the power of food and its impact on how she was feeling, the inflammation that she had, and how her disease was progressing. So food is medicine has been this awareness in my household since I was a little girl. Combined with my father, who also wanted to help my mom, he would take us to live at an ashram every summer. Ashrams are a spiritual center where they focus on food and healing from nature, but also on mindfulness and yoga and being in nature to heal. So I saw firsthand the power of food and mindfulness to help my mom and her symptoms. I wanted to bring this idea from the ashram to all of my clients. I always say that healthy living might not feel easy, but it's actually quite simple.
