Mona Sharma explains why chronic healing stalls: an overactive sympathetic nervous system keeps you in fight-or-flight mode. You need to spend 80% of your time in parasympathetic calm, which requires intentional practice. Small daily stressors pile up as inflammation when your nervous system is dysregulated, blocking recovery.
Intention is to be in our parasympathetic state 80% of the time. So we need to train ourselves on how to get there. So when we think about inflammation, then, okay, so here we are, we go out into the world. Our intention is to be in parasympathetic. It's like this nervous system dysregulation, going out into the world in this dysregulation. So things that would seem like little triggers that we shouldn't not sweat, the small stuff, are like big things to us.
100%.
Yeah.
And it has a lot to do with the fact that there's a concept called allostatic load. Our bodies can only handle a certain amount of stress, positive and negative. But stress capacity is only so much. These little excess annoyances of day to day stressors that we want to try to avoid lead to a complete dysregulation, completely throwing us off of our game. And so those are the daily stressors that affect us. What we need to learn to do is to build patterns, build methods for us to lower the amount of water in that cup on a regular basis. And this is where our daily practices, our lifestyle practices that help us overcome stress, that are our self care routines.
