Your Gut Isn’t Broken—It’s Disconnected 🌾🧬 | Dr. Zach Bush

Dr. Zach Bush explains why your gut isn't failing but losing connection to the food system. He discusses how agricultural chemicals affect food safety and recommends using the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists to choose which foods to buy organic.
When we look at all of the food snacks that are labeled healthy and natural and have fiber and fruits and veggies and stuff like that, can only think of one or two brands that have a glyphosate free res label on the front. Is there meaning to organic anymore for buying these things? Is organic lentils going to put me at less risk than regular lentils?
It's a yes, always organic. And the caveat to that is the work from the Environmental Working Group EWG. They have the Clean 15 and the Dirty Dozen.
Right.
The Clean 15 are ones that you probably don't need to spend the extra money on organic because residues are not different. And so the the conventional non organic methodologies or chemical agricultural technique for growing those foods doesn't leave the food with much more residues. Fortunately, some of those are my favorites, like avocado strawberries. You're basically just poisoning your child if you put a strawberry on the plate that's not organically grown.
Absolutely.
It's just the amount of residues are off the charts. Apples number two, usually behind it. But you can go to the Dirty Dozen and glance across that list. It does change a bit season to season which one's on the top. But those 12 are pretty consistent. So once you get that in your head of like grocery shopping, we're like, all right, Dirty Dozen, I'm always going organic. Clean 15. I'll save the money. Go conventionally grown. So all of those make a difference.
