How to Protect Your Tarot and Oracle Decks While Traveling

In this concise tutorial, Monica Grace of cardreadingqueen.com demonstrates a simple, low‑cost cloth‑wrapping method—originally taught by her friend Julie of White Witch Academy—to protect tarot and oracle decks during travel. She explains how to source suitable fabric scraps from craft stores or home supplies, then walks through step‑by‑step folding and tying techniques for three scenarios: a pocket‑size deck without a box (Everyday Tarot), a boxed deck with worn edges (Aquarian Tarot), and a large, heavy box (Wild Unknown Tarot). The method provides padding, prevents bent corners, and keeps decks compact enough to fit in any bag. Monica concludes by encouraging viewers to try the technique, like the video, and subscribe to her channel.

Hey there, sovereigns! Monica Grace from cardreadingqueen.com here, and today I'm going to do a very quick video on how you can store your oracle and tarot decks as you are traveling on the road. So we are actually about to head out of town, and I was packing up, trying to figure out what I wanted to take with me just for my personal use. So, um, this technique I got from my really good friend Julie. She is White Witch Academy, so you can go to whitewitchacademy.com or she's also on Instagram @white_witch_academy. And what she does is she just takes, she basically just takes pieces of cloth. So these are just scraps and you want something that's about this size. But basically you can just go to Joann's Fabrics or Michaels or wherever you can get quilting squares, or you can even just look in like scrap piles at those places that sell scrap materials, and maybe you even have some in your house already. So what you wanna do, just find a couple prints of stuff that you like. You can definitely clean this up more than I have, obviously. So I have a bit of a mess on mine still, but you can definitely clean that up. And so what I do is I just, anytime I get a deck that doesn't have a box, I fold it up in a piece of cloth instead. And ideally, you know, I try to pick something that's matching and beautiful, So this is one I've been using for a while, and this is for my Everyday Tarot deck, which is a pocket-sized deck from Biddy Tarot, Biddy Tarot, however you wanna pronounce it. So yeah, so I just have this piece of cloth. What I did, I folded it in half. It's not quite a square, as you can see, but you can just make it work however. So then I put it this way with the longer end facing upward. Actually, no, that's incorrect. I put it this way with the longer end facing downward. Sorry about that. You stick your deck, you know, kind of, kind of in the middle, but maybe a little bit further down. And so what I do is I just fold it over and I do a couple folds. 1, 2, 3. Very simple. Flip it over. And then I take the ends and you can see I've done this quite a number of times with this particular piece of cloth. I just take the ends, tie it once, Tie it twice. And so then you have a really beautiful package that you can just toss in any bag. I've had no trouble at all. You will not get any bent corners or anything. It's so, so nice. So that is the first one. So let me tell you a little bit more about how you can use this. So I'm going to do another one. I picked out this green one for my deck, which is the Aquarian Tarot, and this is one of my favorite decks. As you can see, the edges of the box are really worn right now, and the reason is because— and then it's even like coming apart, you can kind of see that— the reason is because I have taken this deck traveling with me before, so it's just gotten beaten up in my bag. So what you can do with that, again, is the same thing. You can actually put the whole box in, or you could take the deck out if you wanted and just do the deck, but I just put the whole box in. I do the same thing, stick it here, fold, fold, kind of squish it into the center, go around, 1, 2, 2 pulls. And definitely, again, it just, it holds it really nicely, it gives it the padding, and it just looks beautiful as well. Um, so that's another use for it. You can just do it to protect your boxes if that's important to you. The third use I have for it is when I have a really big box. So this, um, Wild Unknown Tarot, also another one of my favorites, love the packaging, but this packaging is not realistic to take on the road. Not only is it a ton of extra weight in your bag, but it's also just, you know, it's just impractical. Like, the box is so beautiful, but it would definitely get ruined. Um, so again, you can just pull the box out. For this, I would probably actually just even pull the deck out, um, because I, I do really love this box and I want it to stay really protected. Um, this box in particular, it's a little bit heavier than a typical tarot box. So let me set this aside, and once again I got kind of this wild unknown type of print, and I actually got this in Alaska. So, um, love this particular one. And let me get this set up. So again, I just stick my deck on it, um, fold it over a couple times. Boom, boom. And then I pull it through into ties. All right, so these decks are ready to go now. I can take them traveling with me. I can toss them in basically any bag. It will keep everything really protected, and it's super easy to get the decks in and out of these claws as well. So that's another reason I love it. So I hope this tutorial was helpful to you. Let me know if you end up using this idea to travel with your decks and Um, please give this, please give this video a like if you enjoyed it.
