I Can Swim in Blessings - Pt 2
24 Feb 2020 · 0 min
Justin R. Lester teaches from Amos 9:13 that believers can swim in blessings through salvation in Jesus. He warns against the world's definition of success, urges you to pause pursuit and praise while God pursues you, and reminds you that God protects his investment so you're seen as an asset.
You're tuned into Made for Mondays with Justin Lester. Justin Lester is an average guy who refuses to let Mondays control him. Justin is a husband, dad, pastor, student, and Jesus follower. He's done a lot, he's learned a lot, and he wants to see you at your best. Let's win Mondays. Hey, Justin, what's up today?
Well, everyone, let's jump right into our Made for Mondays time today. I want to pack this text for you that's so powerful to me and so amazing because I think it speaks to some amazing things that God does in our lives. Listen to Amos, chapter nine, verse 13, and I want to read the message translation because I believe it's so powerful that the scripture just does the work for itself. Hear the word of the Lord, it says. Yes indeed. It won't be long, a long time. Now God's decree. Things are going to happen so fast, your head will swim one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won't be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once. And everywhere you look, blessings, blessings like wine pouring off the mountains and hills. I'll make everything right again for my people Israel. They'll rebuild ruined cities. They'll plant vineyards and drink good wine. They'll work their gardens and eat fresh vegetables. And I'll plant them. I'll plant them on their own land and they'll never again be uprooted in the land I give them for God. Your God says so I want to give you this today as you go into your week. And here's the thing, you can have blessing on blessing on blessing on blessing and swim in blessings because God literally says that those individuals are holding on to the salvation that God gives them. And because of Jesus being the Messiah and the freedom that comes to salvation, he says you can swim in blessings. And I'm not giving you some like prosperity piece today and like decree declare all this type of stuff. But here's what I want to give you this week as you go on to be made for Mondays, to own your Mondays, that if you believe in Jesus, that he's the Messiah and the freedom of salvation, y', all, I'm not talking about God gives you a puddle of blessings. God can give you blessing on blessing on blessing on blessing on blessing. And it sounds funny and like contrite, but I really wanted you to have this today. And I don't want you to miss define God's success with your definition of success. God can give you blessing on blessing on blessing because we this Monday, I don't want you to define God success for you based upon the world success. God success, World success. That world success says some someone getting fired so you get the job. World success says, some HR manager likes you so you get your name passed along. World success says, somebody calls me back for a job. World success says, I hope I can make enough money to send my kids to summer camp or eat enough fast food, go to a restaurant and put it on Instagram. I drink just enough liquor to keep my balance to make good decisions so I can have fun in a relationship. Go to school till 22, grad degrees till 28. Married at 30, kids at 32, quarter office at 42, retired 65, grandkid 70, dead at 90. That's the world success. And so we don't loving love people in our bibles until we're 80. Because that's when I can finally say I'm swimming in blessings. I want to tell you something. My vision for my life is not incumbent upon what the world thinks. God literally says in this text, you can swim in blessings on blessings on blessings that your vision is not somebody else's vision for you. Because if your vision for your life is to get to Friday, that's not a vision, that's a to do list. Want to tell you God's vision for you this one day you can swim in blessings. And we live in this culture that's stemming from an ill defined nature of success. God says, listen, you can swim in it. So how do I know we can swim in this? God literally says, listen, God does two things. He restores and God rebuilds. God restores and God rebuilds. As you go into this week, what are the things that you need God to restore in your psyche, in your mind, your body, your thinking this week? What are the things you need God to rebuild in your psyche, your mind and your body this week? Because if you bear the image of God and you reflect the power of God, Amos literally tells us in this text that God will let you swim in blessings and you'll never be uprooted. So how can I swim in this stuff? How can I swim in this? Let me give you some principles to hold on to this. Number one, Respond to yourself with grace. Respond to yourself with grace. God gives us a dispensation of grace. I want you to respond to yourself with grace. The kingdom of God gives me favor. So I'm going to respond to the inner workings of my mind with the grace that God gives unto me. Here's how we do it by putting God's word On your mind that as God builds you, as God structures you this week, rebuild yourself and give yourself some grace. Give yourself some slack. You don't need to beat yourself up to be successful. The world will try to do that enough to you. God has given you grace and vision and authority. God has equipped you with what it means to be successful in God's eyes. You'll see things destroyed, but you'll be able to see them planted. You'll see desolate places, but God will also allow you to plant gardens. And God says, I'm protecting you to allow you to swim in wonderful things. Number two. Pause your pursuit of life and praise while God is pursuing you. Pause your pursuit of life and praise while God is pursuing you. God tells the people of Israel, I'm giving you all these blessings. But God says, not only will I give you these blessings, but I'm gonna protect you while you have these blessings. So because you have Jesus and you have salvation, you're full of it. You're protected. Because the ones now who are working are the ones who are gonna see the blessing. Then watch this. God is putting an infrastructure together for you to hold the harvest that he's trying to give you. And because God is protecting his investment, God sees you as an asset and not a liability. So whatever you're dealing with or going through this week or you anticipate this week, I want you to know this. God does not see you as a liability to the kingdom. God sees you as an asset to the kingdom. Right? God is protecting his investment. So you can swim in blessings. I asked you questions before and I'm going to ask you this again. What scriptures are driving you this week? What about your character can awaken you this week? What thoughts about God make you smile? Like, think about what is the thing that makes God so beautiful to you, that makes you smile when you think of God, let that take you into this week. Because the storm you think that God is sending is God protecting his investment. The silence you think God is giving you is God protecting his investment. The singleness you have, the relationships you have, is God protecting his investment. Because God knows how much he worked for you. God knows how much he put inside of you so that you can swim in the blessings that come from God and not stand in just simple puddles around the world. So I want you to own this week and be made for this week and own the power of God that is waiting for you this week. You are a beautiful picture of God's creativity and imagination. Own the power of God that's inside of you to be the person God's called you to be. Let me pray for you today as you are made for this hour. God thank you that you let us swim in blessings until today God. We put our swim gear on, we grab our bibles, we grab our goggles and we jump into the water to be somebody that you've called us to be. Thank you God for loving us so much that you'll allow us to swim head deep in blessings. And God we honor you today as we hold on to the blessings you've given us. We give you glory, honor and praise. It's in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Own your Mondays. Mondays don't own you. You've got this. You'll win this. God loves everything about you. God created you and he knew you. Now go win your Mondays God. Bl.
