A Muslim man and his Jewish partner mark two years together, proving wrong those who said their interfaith relationship wouldn't work. They say religion and politics have never been the problem; an older woman once excluded him from Shabbat when she learned he was Arab Muslim, but fear and labels, not actual differences, create the real distance.
We're officially 2 years together. Many of you said we will not make it. I'm Muslim and she's Jewish.
You said religion and politics will come between us. It won't last. Always will.
But after 2 years, here is what we discovered. We had exactly zero problems about religion or politics.
Our problems boil down to regular human differences. Cultural differences, personality differences, normal human-to-human differences, not We come into this world with fears.
Fear of people with different religion, politics, orientation, or looks, and assume the worst.
But these assumptions only keep us further away from people. One day I got kicked out of a Shabbat because this older woman knew that I was dating you.
And what's wrong with me?
She was racist.
She didn't know who I was.
No, no, she has no idea who Nas Daily is.
It's just the label.
It's just purely, I am dating an Arab Muslim.
And by the way, we're not telling people date other people and like— just don't be fearful of other people because of the label assigned to them. Exactly. Sometimes the people you were told to be careful of are the ones that change your life the most.
