One conversation.

A Jewish person and Palestinian Muslim met for lunch on October 9, two days after the attacks, and talked about their fears and hopes for peace. They argue that one honest conversation can rebuild hope and show coexistence is possible.

This is a personal video, and it's not for everyone.
Today is 3 years since October 7th, and the pain of the last 3 years we cannot put into one video.
So we want to share a personal story instead that happened 3 years ago, and it was a date. 2 days after October 7th, we went on a date.
A Jew and a Muslim. It's true. The date was prearranged before October 7th.
So it was a bit awkward. I didn't know if it was going to happen. I was ready to be stood up. 10 minutes go by and she's not there.
But then I showed up. Yes, it was a date with a Palestinian Muslim right after October 7th, but I showed up.
The reason we're sharing this story is because of what happened on that lunch. We had one conversation. In that conversation, I saw the fears of Jewish people. October 7th reminded them of the Holocaust. It's an existential fear. I also saw what Jewish people want for peace.
And I saw that not all Palestinians want to kill me, but some of them have the same desire for peace that I do.
And weirdly enough, her vision and her fear is not that different from my vision and my fears.
Even if the labels above our head did not match, that simple conversation that we had at 2 PM on October 9th made us full of hope.
We believe from one conversation that our people can get along, our families can accept us, and our friends can too. Coexistence is not a dream. It's actually possible.
And it's right here. We still feel the pain of the last 3 years, but we reject the pessimists and the naysayers. It takes one event to shatter your hope, but it also takes one conversation to build it back up.
I don't know who needs to hear this or see this, but please go have that conversation. With anyone. With anyone. It doesn't need to be romantic. Don't lose hope. A better future is possible for both of our people.
