This is a YouTube video titled "You should know this word." created in July 2025. It features a monologue by a single speaker explaining the historical context and meaning of the term "Luddite," discussing resistance to technological advancements from the Industrial Revolution to modern AI fears.
There's a word in the dictionary called Luddite and everyone should know what it means. 200 years ago in England, thousands of men were angry. They broke into textile factories and smashed the machines inside. Destroy every machine because of a new clothing machine that arrived. It made clothes five times faster than any human and it was replacing humans fast. So the workers fought back. They called themselves Luddites and The government sent 12,000 soldiers to stop them. Ever since then, Luddites appeared every time we had a big invention, the telephone. They said it would end real human conversations. The car, it's dangerous. The computer, we'll all be unemployed. The Internet, it will destroy jobs. And now AI people are resisting again, worried this will take over everything. Every revolution has people who resist it. If we listen to them, we would still be making clothes by hand in a factory. That's one minute. See you tomorrow.
