We moved everything we own into a 5x5 (Family Travel Vlog)

Nate and Tilly pack their family into a 5x5 RV for full-time travel, removing the factory couch, organizing homeschooling bins, and handling the practical chaos of moving everything they own. They spend the day juggling naps, park time, and coffee runs before their first night in the rig.

I'm gonna take the drive and go pick up the rig and bring it back, and we'll go from there. I forgot my coffee. Thank you.
You're gonna need your coffee.
Yes, thank you. Bye. All right, well, it's been about a month since I put a putter in here. I haven't been doing this that long. Now I gotta remember what— how all to do this again. Uh, good thing I have a checklist. I have a checklist. When we were here last, We took out our couch, the RV couch that's in there, and it has like all these electronics and stuff that we don't care about and don't need. Definitely don't want the lights. I don't even know why they put lights on the couch. Anyway, we took the couch out and we're going to put our own couch in. We put a bunch of stuff in there, so I just wanted to make sure that it was all secure. I'm gonna head over to Sweetwater and organized, set up. We gotta come back. Everybody needs a nap. I need a nap. We all need naps. Change of plans. So we were gonna go to check in, but we got our check-in and checkout mixed up. Luckily, this little— there's a little park next door and there's nobody here, really. So now we've been able to put out one of the slides, and we're just— we're starting to kind of organize some homeschool stuff while the kids are out playing in the park. How's it going?
Um, it's going real good.
Yeah, just because the change of plans?
Yes, kind of. It's good, it's just hard. I'm just— I don't know, knowing I can't— I'm not just setting up now in like an hour. We have to close everything down and take everything off the counters. So even if I make a big mess, I'm gonna have to clean up the mess and do it all and do it all over again. But we can do hard things. We can do hard things, can't we?
Okay, so we didn't take much video after we waited until 2 PM to get in because it's been about a month or so since we've done the process of unhooking, and the same with like hooking up, just because I wanted to focus it didn't feel like I was paying much attention to it. Instead of doing all that, we just got it done. Tilly went back to the rig, and so she's organizing now and kind of setting everything up with what we did put into the rig. Now that we get our slides out, we expect only to be here probably for another couple days, but it's this kind of weird transition. We just wanted to show you though because it's, it's an interesting process. We've never really thought about like how to do it, and once we get to a place where we're like, okay, this is place is pretty empty other than what we just need to sell or get rid of, then we will move in. That's about all there is to it, and then we're gonna be on the road.
It's time to tackle everything in the master bedroom. Okay, now it is time for the kitchen and the living room. I have been here for the past 4 hours without the kids and family, and I've gotten So much stuff done, but I'm wiped out, so I'm calling it quits before I start making mistakes or dropping things on my toes. And going to head home and relax and get a good night's sleep, and I will be back in the morning. Good morning! It is time to get back to organizing. I'm going to make a quick stop at Starbucks, and then I'm going to head over to the rig. Hopefully I can get all this done today. I don't know, we'll see. Day 2 is in the books. I spent about 5 hours here today and I think I got almost everything done. Uh, right behind us is where our couch is gonna go. I'm having a friend build a shelf right here. There's their room. All their clothes will go in here. And then these cupboards up here, which are amazing. Those are our science and art bins for school. I think I've got everything ready to go. And I would imagine we're going to be in here in just the next couple of days. We're going to go get donuts for breakfast.
Mom!
Yeah, donuts? Yeah, let's go get some donuts.
One of the things that we realized pretty quickly when we bought the rig, we didn't like the couch. Pretty common with couches. Well, here, let me show you. This is, this is the couch. Like, it looks nice, right? It's fake leather and all that kind of stuff. It's got— so it has like the heater, the light, and the massage. Then you gotta plug it in, and all that stuff weighs a bunch. It's like 200 pounds or something. You can only fit 3 people on it. Uh, we actually just watched Less Junk More Journey, and they tried to fit a couch in, and we were laughing so hard at it. They had a big window that they ended up taking out Anyway, I took some time and I actually cut this whole thing up and then rebuilt it.
So here's the underside of it and the back of it. You're a genius. Not just a hat rack, although sometimes it's just a hat rack.
Right now it's a little bit of a hat rack. I got this backwards. Executive decision was made just a few minutes ago. We're gonna pack up all of our stuff. There's not much here anymore, so we were kind of trying to figure out, like, since we've moved the rig over to where we're camping, we've just basically run out of stuff here. So the only stuff here now is the stuff that we use to sleep. We've just made the decision, we're like, oh, forget it. Like, we know we have like a week or more left, I guess we're going full time. Starting tomorrow. It's the last day. And Tilly doesn't want me to film this stuff. We're already doing camp life. Washing our hair in the sink. Come on, we gotta get used to this.
Having boy hair is nice.
Today we've got a bunch to do. One last thing to go into storage. I mean, we're literally sleeping on the floor. All the bunk beds are down. Like, this is where the boys slept last night. And there's little Miss Sunshine. She just woke up. It's like 11 o'clock. She's already a teenager. Table's gonna turn into our table in the rig. We don't have a lot left. But for some reason we have a lot left.
Let's go! Come on, let's go, let's go, let's go! It's tiny. So this is everything we owned. Why is it so tiny? Because we rented a tiny one. I know, why didn't we get one like this? We donated everything.
Remember your backpack? Yep. We were going to show you all of us doing stuff, but it was exhausting. Tilly's sitting in the corner not wanting to get on camera, so it's been a day then. We got our stuff back here and there and there and there and there and there and all over the place, and none of it's in the right place. But Tilly's been working super hard while the boys—
most of it's in the right Oh, hello, welcome to the vlog. Don't say none of it's put away, I can see you doing this.
Well, I—
almost all of it's put away.
Okay, I didn't mean none of it, I was being hyperbolic.
I don't appreciate hyperbole, I'm tired. No hyperboles here.
Alright, no hyperboles. Anyway. It's been a long day.
It's been a long couple days.
Yeah.
Tonight is our first night in the rig, which is super exciting.
Yeah.
Our first official—
first official night. Yeah.
Yeah. Not like vacation.
First official night that we are houseless, not homeless. Is that what they say? That's what people say. That's what— I guess that's what people say. I just— I've seen that a lot lately. So many people are going full-time and I see so many people say like that's how they start their phrases.
Like houseless house.
I don't know.
What is that? Oh, banana. That's right, banana.
Oh, that's a better way to eat it, like corn. You want more banana?
You eat your banana? You kind of made it nasty. No, no, new one. Uh-uh. This is your banana. Banana. Eat this banana.
No.
Can I interest you in a banana?
Banana.
Banana. Banana. Eat your banana.
