Custom Athletic Villages?

A founder describes building athletic villages in Vanuatu, Montenegro, and Bali as entrepreneurial and fitness hubs. The projects started during COVID, are still under construction, and offer a seven-day Transform program as entry point. The goal is sustainable communities where people train, build businesses, and live together.

We started on common villages, not knowing if it was going to work. We started with the Vanuatu project during COVID And the idea was my friend asked, would you like to buy a block of land on the beach in the middle of nowhere, a place that hadn't heard of? And I looked into it and I thought, yeah, this actually seems like quite a good idea for the way the world's looking at the moment. Place that we can start something else. You can have cattle there. It's a great place to have goats. It's a. Everything grows. People don't know starvation because there's coconut trees and there's fish and you can grow all sorts of root vegetables. And I sort of had that fantasy like most men have probably at some stage, like, what if we moved away from it all? And yeah, things were going well. Business wise was like, okay, let's, let's do this, let's get started. And then when I came to this place where I'm standing right now, there was not much here at all. We came here by chance on my daughter's birthday and at the end of three days here, we sort of decided, okay, let's do something in Montenegro as well. I chose to come to Montenegro because it's on the edge of the European Union. They're independently minded people. It's a beautiful country. And I wasn't planning on starting any kind of big project here, but when I met Jubo and sort of came across this opportunity here, we started. And so now, two years later, we've got a beautiful big gym that a lot of these videos are taken from. And we've had nearly 100 guests from within the uncommon brotherhood who've come here and stayed. Even though there's construction going on. You might even hear some of the construction noise going on in the background. I had this kind of vision from in my early 20s. I think most men have. I'm just one of the crazy ones who's actually been able to start it and get it moving. I still don't know if it's the best or worst thing that I've done. It's been a lot of. A lot of energy go into it. But some beautiful, beautiful experiences and this idea of village life. I didn't know really what it was when I started talking about Angkong villages. But now we've been living it. We lived it for a few months last year. We lived it for a few months again now where people come from around the world and they live next to my family and we train together and we prepare Food and, you know, we have the goat here and yeah, we live this, this lifestyle. We're all building online businesses and we, we collaborate on content, we think about building business. There's a lot of guys who are sort of getting started mostly, but some others who are already doing really well in business as well. You can see some of the podcasts they've done with some of those guests. We've got an event coming up in September where it's mostly guys who have really already done really well in business and it's fun to have this opportunity. The place itself still has a lot of work to be done. It's a construction zone. There's lots of things about it that aren't working as well. It's very different building in Montenegro versus building in Australia or other parts of the world. Things can be done really well here, but we've sort of chosen this route and it's. Yeah, it's complicated, but it's, it's a powerful process in itself and I wanted these experiences. If you look into the Claire Graves spiral dynamic, you'll see that he says that the environment has to drive you into your next level of personal development. So there was only so much personal development I could get out of doing the same things that I'd already been doing. I knew how to build online businesses, I knew how to coach a world champion team, you know, travel around the world and you had to be a father of two. But I didn't know how to cohabit with people from around the world and people bringing their girlfriends here and families. And I wanted to have that experience. I wanted to see if it could work and see what it would be. And people at the start were like, oh, it's going to be some kind of commune, some kind of hippie thing, and it's going to be a cult. And I didn't know what it was going to be either. But the experiences have been beautiful. It's been simple enough. Socially, it's not as complex as people might think. We haven't been actually living together. It's more like shorter experiences. People stay for a month or two months and so not always easy. There's sometimes little bits of friction and challenge, but that's, that's what I wanted. Athletically, these places have the potential to change the game athletically because I've just had an expert in WEC method here, Tim from Tim's Gym. I've had Taylor Davidson from Football Entangled, who's got a great brand and business, and he was teaching me a Lot of stuff about feet. I had Sebastian Coelho here, who is an expert in functional patterns and a lot of that sort of stuff. And so even just my experience here in the last few months, it's changed the way I think about training dramatically. And I want that for others. I want to create like that. That was the dream, is to create these hub environments where the athletic development can happen. But then you have deep conversations as well about life and about family and about religion and about all the stuff that people don't want to talk about, talking about money. And those deep conversations happen. And there's time for everything to unfold in the world of short form, content and even, you know, long form is 10 minute conversations. And we have conversations over the course of a month, two months. That's how Bali Time Chamber came about, because it already started. Those two locations. When I went to Bali and I was talking to Nico, I was like, yeah, this will work. Like, this will work inside of this idea that I've been working on. And the same concept will work here. And it's worked much, much better with what he's doing. That's made a lot of money. We haven't made any money out of these other projects yet. We're just putting the idea out there and seeing where we can get it. But Bali Time Chamber has stuck. They were able to push the marketing forward. The execution of the physical locations is beautiful, but in my mind, I already knew that there's a place in the world for locations where it's moving towards excellence in entrepreneurship, in athleticism, you, great food, great health. There's nowhere like that. You can go to a five star hotel, you can go to Maldives, you can go wherever you want. You can spend as much money as you want, but you can't have the experience that you can have here because there's entrepreneurial men, athletic men, who have this curiosity and openness to find a better experience of life. And it does sound too good to be true. When people are on Instagram. Oh, it's, it's homosexuals and whatever. Like, it's really foreign. It's a really foreign concept. But I get to live it all the time. And I get to go from here to Bali, where we've got a place next to Bali time chamber, 10 minutes away, to be able to go, you know, into the Bali Time Chamber environment, but also have private events, invite people there. And then Vanuatu is coming along as well. It's a perfect location for a much bigger, like multiple families. We've got families moving there now. We've got more families going there. It's a bigger project that's probably more of a know, real, live in completely, like, create your own universe type of scenario. I've never felt more free than Vanuatu. Like, there's, there's two or three police over on the main island, and I don't hate police, but I like the feeling of there's no overlord here. There's no one telling me what to do. There's no one going to trying to control me. And I didn't know that. I didn't like that feeling until I traveled a lot. And then I've realized what it feels like to have a lot of freedom. Vanuatu is like the ultimate expression of that freedom. And other places have it as well. Montenegro here feels, you know, very, very free and things are good, but it's, it's more like, you know, it's more European and such. But athletically, to be able to now, like, we've got the setup here where people could come, an athlete could come fully focused on their training, living on raw milk, local eggs, local meat, goat meat, you know, lamb, beef. It's all cheap, it's accessible, it's good quality. That's what I wanted. That's, you know, that's what I've created. And so now that that opportunity does exist for someone to come and have that type of experience in this location, and that was the dream. It seemed like a massive fantasy. In my 20s, I never made any money. I, like, I didn't make more than 50 grand a year from before I was 30. And, you know, I didn't think that it was possible for me to do anything like this. Now I get to invite young men and they get to live in this environment. We talk about business all the time. We've got good books to read and we're training hard and the food's good. And I'm curious of who these men are going to become. I'm curious of what can, can happen with this. And gradually it becomes more families coming together. And that's, that's very exciting too. You know, what, what could be. I don't know. I don't know exactly how many families are going to be living in this location here in, in Montenegro and how well we can execute on all of the development here. So far, it's me pushing the, the rock ahead together with local family. But every month it becomes more believable of something beautiful is going to happen here. We've got 10 cabins now. We've got the gym, and it's getting better and better. It's still a long way from what it could be. It's a big property. There's, there's so much potential for, you know, obstacle courses and, and multiple families and lots of stuff. It has its own water source for most of the year. It's a beautiful big opportunity. But yeah, I don't know where it's going to go. Then we've got the Greece location Jonathan has set up. He's part of the network. It's not exactly the same as with the, you know, it's not uncommon owned in the way that this place is, but it's beautiful. He's inviting people in there, he's having events, he's living his dream life. He's living out his van, you know, not sure where he was going in life when we first had conversations two years ago. Now he's living his wildest dream. Manuel's built something beautiful in Portugal to run events out of and such. So I love that it's inspiring others to do things as well and other guys who have land in their family and ideas. Things are developing. There's land in Austria to be developed and I love that this idea is coming forth because I think everyone senses that there's got to be something better. There's something better than the nuclear family. I love my family. I love living with my children. It's better in this village type environment. We need to keep experimenting like with the training systems. I know there's a next evolution of stuff that the only way we're going to get there is by putting the different minds together and testing the experiences and experiments. And you know, I need to put my best forward but I need to get around others who are all putting their best forward. Create content, share ideas, run training camps. Having multiple coaches at the same training camp is one of the ideals that do very different things, but you're getting different perspectives from the same place. Doesn't really happen, but it can now. And so that's, that's what I'm excited about with Uncommon Athletic. Doing more of local food, fully sustainable, own food, own slaughtering, like fully self sufficient has been a dream for a long time. We need more logistical development to be able to do that. There's plenty of opportunity to buy more land up in the mountains here as well. That's part of the plan. Step by step. Need things to grow. I'm working super hard to deliver amazing online products so I can fund all of this stuff. And you know, ideally I'm going to find other people who want to have similar visions and can see that, yeah, you can't really do this stuff on your own. To have lots of locations around the world where this is happening. We have a good system for turning, you know, for transforming men, for bringing. Taking men and supporting them to become more of who they really want to be. So yeah, this is the. The vision with the villagers. I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, questions, comments. If you'd like to be someone who can come to one of these places at the moment as. As you could imagine, like it's. It's with my family. It's very personal, it's intimate. I want people here who are bought into being the best version of themselves. So so far it's only been the brotherhood. We're launching this Uncommon Athletic. Guys who are working super hard in the training and are able to take on these new skills. That shows me a work ethic that I'm interested in being around those sorts of people. But yeah, we're opening up, we're growing and if you'd like to get involved then the UNCOMMON ATHLETIC the Transform 7 is the best place to start a seven day transformation experience. We get to know what it's all about. You take on some of the skills. It doesn't take a lot of time, but it can result in a pretty dramatic transformation so. Or at least a Kickstarter restart if you're looking for to get some mojo going. And yeah, I hope this was valuable. Love to hear your thoughts and comments if you value it, like share, subscribe, all that stuff and we'll speak soon.
