Nichole Briscoe rented a room to a 78-year-old woman who left assisted living, then spent weeks shuttling her between eight hotels after she demanded to leave. Each hotel had problems, and the woman had been banned from several for past misconduct. Briscoe wonders if she handled it right.
Am I tripping? So I rent rooms to elderly people. With renting rooms to elderly people, I make sure they're independent. So I get this lady coming out of an assisted living facility. She's like, I don't need to be here, I don't fit in with these old people, I don't need to be here, I'm independent. Social worker, they agree, they like, she too independent to be here. I'm like, all right, bet, let me meet her. I meet her, everything go good, woo woo. Tell her my houses are located in Alamance County. She's like, oh yeah, that's no problem. I would like to be in Guilford, but Alamance is cool, it's country living, it's It's on an acre. And she's like, yeah, I grew up in the country. Boom, she come live with me. She there for 2 weeks. She is not happy. She's like, I did not know this house was going to be this country. I want something on the bus line. I don't want to be here. So I'm like, okay, you don't have to be here. Let me help you relocate. Nah, I'm good. I can leave now. Okay. So I proceed to help her move. She's like, I want to go and stay in a hotel back where I was in Guilford County. Okay, I'm like, if you give me a chance, I could probably find you somebody else that has housing like me. Like, no, no, no, no, I can go back to a hotel. I'll get me a— I'll book me a room. Okay, cool. Now mind you, we're talking about a 78-year-old woman, very independent. Okay, so I go pick her up, pack all her stuff up, take her to said hotel, get to the lobby. They're like, uh, no, she's been banned from this hotel. Banned this 78-year-old woman. You sure you spell her name right? Yeah, she know why we banned her. Okay, she was smoking in the room. Okay, no problem. Like, what a coinkydink, you didn't tell me. She was like, oh, I ain't know. He take me to this one. I'm like, okay, right? I'm foolish, I know. I take her to the second one. Another one, she's been banned from this room, she tore the room up. I'm like, oh, okay. I take her to the third one. In the words of DJ Khaled, another one. Y'all, I took this lady to a total of 8 hotels. 8 hotels. And finally, the 8th hotel— the first 5 she was blocked from, 6 and 7 was booked. The 8th hotel was like, she blocked here. But he was cool, right? I remember him, he remembered. He was like, I know y'all. I was like, since you know me, could you please let her stay? He was like, okay, we'll let her stay. We get her in the room, we pack her all up, everything's good. She's like Something wrong with this AC. I'm like, okay, let me see. It don't work. So he's like, oh, you gonna have to pack her up and we can move her to another room, pack all her stuff back up, take her to another— sit in the lobby. He said it's gonna be an hour. I said, okay, well, I got to go, because again, she chose this life, right? I gotta go. And I'm gone. She calls me and said, where are you? I am a senior citizen sitting in this lobby with all this stuff. Ma'am, this is the life you chose. We took you to 8 hotels. I should have left you at the first one. So you're just gonna leave me in the lobby with my stuff? Goodbye. She said, you know what, goodbye. Was I wrong?
