💡 Leaders: AI isn’t your teammate — it’s your tool.

"Is AI your teammate?" That is one of the questions I got today during my keynote at South by Southwest Sydney. And it's an interesting question because I often, maybe a year ago I would've said, "Absolutely, AI is a teammate." But one of the number one reasons AI projects fail is actually because people over-rely on these AI systems and they actually over-privilege these AI systems. And what that means is that when you build an AI system, you don't think carefully about what it can access and what data it has access to, and you don't, you don't even adopt some of the practices that we've done in cloud technology, like least privilege. So one of the things I always encourage organizations to do is to not necessarily think of AI like a teammate or an employee, but instead to think of AI more like an untrusted contractor. Zero trust. Put them in a special domain to ensure that those AI systems don't do anything unless you give them the permission to do so.
